| [Praise] Shining Example of Customer Support: Logitech I have been using my Logitech Mx310, for a good two years now, and it finally started to wear down and break. In a need of a new mouse, I ask some of friends on what they were using and what they recommend. The conversation came back to them asking me what I was using before, as soon as I said Logitech, they told me to call them to send me a new one.
First off, I didn't have a original box or upc for the mouse, nor do I have the receipt from when I bought it. From what I understood there the bare minimum in getting even a chance in getting any sort of service, and thats if the mouse is still under warranty.
Long story, short I called in, read some numbers off the back of my mouse, and they sending me a new one free of charge. Apparently the warranty for my mouse is a whooping 5 years. -- "Don't ask me I don't know anything, I am a product of the American Education system. I also make poor-quality cars and crappy electronics."

| Re: [Praise] Shining Example of Customer Support: Logitech I did that with my Logitech mouse a year ago..I had a pretty good one for 3 years, but towards the end it just wouldn't charge anymore, so I called them up and they sent me a brand new laser mouse! No refurbished equivalent or anything, simply a brand new top-of-the-line mouse! | |

1 edit | I have spoken with Logitech in the past and they have always come through.
Another company is Microsoft. Can't tell you how many times they have sent me replacement keyboard/mice at no cost for me when their product failed on me, even after warranty was out. -- CheckSite.us | YourIP.US

In Logitech's old days, you never needed to worry about fixing the old one: they never broke.
The Trackman Marble was the pinnacle of trackball design. Admittedly, it favored people with larger hands, but man is that thing bomb-proof. The one I have has to be nearly a decade old and still works just fine.
Of course, it's only fair to say that if Logitech had maintained that same high build quality, they likely would have put themselves out of business.
Sadly, most peripherals nowadays are indeed designed to be "throwaway"-type items. The move to dome-switch keyboards from mechanical-switches was a clear signal from keyboard manufacturers that they were more obsessed with production costs than they were with building durable, long-lasting keyboards that end users actually enjoyed banging away on.
(Anyone else out there still using a Model M? Right on, brother!)
I'll never forget the shock I got seeing the local Walgreens selling keyboards and mice. But yeah, nowadays they're so cheap (and cheaply made) that even Walgreens can carry them.

Well, the kicker is that most people computing today are, very likely, only familiar with the cheap, throwaway keyboards and mice that have been the standard for the past 15 years or so. Convincing such people that spending significantly more money on better-quality keyboards or mice is tough to do, seeing as how most (though not all) of them are content with using the stock El Cheapo keyboard and mouse that came with whatever computer happens to be on their desk.
I stumbled across this recently:

..and thought it was an interesting project. And it seems that after this guy built the original one purely for fun, a friend of his is now turning them out on a commission basis....at $1200+ a pop. Wow.
Apparently, he's had at least a few takers, even at that price. So, yes, there would seem to be a market even for very expensive peripherals, at least among a few people. Although since I'd top out at $120 even for one of those keyboards, I don't seem to be one of them.

But seriously, boutique items do have decent markets out there, while we do have people obsessed with cheap stuff people always love flashy stuff with huge price tags.

| Logitech mice are expensive though, or some I should say. I bought my Revolution from NewEgg for $90. My last MX was $100 but lasted me years. You get what you pay for. I'll stick with Logitech for mice forever. I almost got a Logitech keyboard but went with »dvice.com/archives/2008/04/saite···u_cy.php | |

| Yup, another happy Logitech mouse user. I got my mouse about 5-6 years ago and it still works like a champ. I've thought about getting a new wireless (mine's wired) one but why give up the bucks when this one works just as good as the day I took it out of the box? Great piece of equipment. | |
