Unfortunately the price of gold shot up as the stock market became as volatile as it is and the coins were about 10% higher than the initial price I was looking at.

The jeweler who mounted the coins in the bezels I purchased said I did very well on the price of the coins I purchased. I am sure I could have negotiated a better price but since they made a strong effort to get the coins, and provided a fair price I just paid the price.

I would recommend Stern to anybody who is looking for a coin dealer.

I can't imagine ShopNBC a huge corporate entity (as well as the other shopping networks and fine jewelers) would break the law on TV on a constant basis. The coin jewelry they are selling is a brand new 2008 coin. Look at the link in my post showing what they are selling.

They even include the box the coin came in from the US mint. I'll take my chances that the corporate attorneys at NBC know something about the law.

FYI. Here is the law.

Copying coins for jewelry purposes or altering them to create jewelry is legal according to Title 18 U.S.C., Section 331. This section provides criminal penalties for anyone who alters coins for jewelry purposes and represents them to be something other than jewelry.

Section 331 of Title 18 of the United States code provides criminal penalties for anyone who “fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales, or lightens any of the coins coined at the Mints of the United States.” This statute means that you may be violating the law if you change the appearance of the coin and fraudulently represent it to be other than the altered coin that it is. As a matter of policy, the U.S. Mint does not promote coloring, plating or altering U.S. coinage: however, there are no sanctions against such activity absent fraudulent intent.

It is a federal offense to sell fake U.S. coins so I doubt any of them will rip you off except maybe for the price of them.
When you buy gold in most of these stores you pay a commission on it.
So make sure they give you a general idea of the price before you track all the way over to their store.
They will likely tell you with the ups and downs of gold prices they can't quote a price, just say you want an idea of the cost and not the cost.

I buy all my stuff off of Ebay.
Thanks for the help. I tried all of the places listed before I posted. Most places deal in coins that are more collectible. I found a good dealer, Stern , on W47th but I am still need one more coin. I am hoping he can get it for me next week.

I am also looking for a 2002 platinum American Eagle but the price of platinum has changed so quickly no dealer wants to keep them in stock
