| Reporting Computer, Internet or Intellectual Property Crime
A how to guide, NOTE for the US only, in Canada we just shoot them and then feed the carcass to our dog teams.....
Internet-related crime, like any other crime, should be reported to appropriate law enforcement investigative authorities at the local, state, federal, or international levels, depending on the scope of the crime. Citizens who are aware of federal crimes should report them to local offices of federal law enforcement.

| reply to Link Logger So, who do I contact in Nigeria, Ukraine, Russia, Kuwait, Taiwan, and China (and others, of course) about these endless worm probes (internet related crimes) against my web server?
Not to mention the theft of bandwidth by the spammers against my mail server... well, ok, I've got that down to a trickle now. |

| reply to Link Logger I think it's interesting and an unfortunate omission that they left out a critical part of notification - filing a report with local law enforcement. That's one of the first things that the FTC and many other organizations instruct citizens to do, particularly with computer intrusions, fraud and threats. They are federal crimes, but almost always local or state crimes too, and insurance, banks and CC companies often require local police reports as part of their recovery actions.
Based on that notice, I think that competitive barriers between U.S. law enforcement organizations still exist. -- The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding. -- Justice Louis D. Brandeis |
