Well, yes, but potentially he COULD have caused some pretty serious damage to people's lives. For example.....

•Having to argue with Verizon and/or the sex line operator over calls not made by anyone in the household
•Missing an important or necessary incoming call because this turkey was appropriating the lines for his own use
•Preventing the family from making an EMERGENCY (911) call which could have resulted in loss of life or property damage
•And the most probable: Precipitating a divorce because a wife thought her husband was making the calls, and/or grounding or other punishment of teenage sons who were wrongly accused of making such calls (once they showed up on the bill).

This is not by any means a victimless crime. He probably caused a lot of people a lot of frustration and anguish. He's likely also opened himself up for civil action, if any of his victims can prove that their lives and/or financial situation were negatively impacted by his actions (disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, and that comment is not legal advice).

Don't get me totally wrong here ...I do hope he faces some serious penalties, and I don't think it was victimless... Just half-jokingly comparing to what techs from other companies have done...
Looks to me like another tech makes the news for screwing with customers and being a dumbass...

Very good points actually. You have to wonder what happened to all these people that he screwed with. Would not be fun to be on that end of his pranks.

Hope VZ makes some amends with those affected!

The article said he tapped business lines too. He could well have cost someone their job too. What a thoughtless prick.

I had some 900 charges show up on my phone bill 10 or 12 years ago. They had a recording of the person who made the call saying their name and that they were authorized to make the call. The name given and the voice was not mine nor anyone I could recognize. They said they would send an affidavit for me to sign and they would drop the charges. I never got the affidavit but the charges disappeared from my bill the next month.
