And why should they do that? Most people are completely uninformed when it comes to telecomm issues. BBR visitors are not a good sample group for determining people's knowledge concerning broadband issues.

When the local 11 O'clock news starts talking about broadband issues instead of the latest fire or killing from a city 1,000 miles away, then maybe that will change.
unfortunately, a lot people are stupid (or ignorant), so you are right - why should verizon stop thinking they are?

on the other hand, the government has this agency called the "FCC" that is supposed to be looking out for the public interest, so it's not really the job of the 11 o'clock news.

besides, the "news" industry is mainly in the tank for the same interests the FCC is supposed to be regulating, so I certainly wouldn't expect them to be pointing out how consumers are being screwed by their bosses. for that matter, the FCC is in the tank for the interests they are supposed to be regulating (even cable, for whom Martin shows no love).
