Re: [Rant] craigslist scammers

If you keep bringing bad checks to your bank, they may get suspicious and report you or maybe refuse to do business with you. I think you have a lot to lose if you continue.

Just my 2c.

thats a good point, but shouldn't there be someone I can take them to? Maybe I should have them sent to the Attorney General's office here in OH? Addressed to me/my company, c/o "OAG" or something...

It seems to me as soon as you see the line about the check being made out for a higher amount, you should just say no and drop the whole thing.

I got the same message from some one indicating that wanted to by an item I had for sale on Craigslist. The first tip off was the unsual use of words and phrases. I would guess it is from a source outside the US

My latest scam-bait is 'alliyah cole'; see »www.kba4pcrepair.com/scams/alliyahcole for the correspondence; she sounds a little pissed!
Cole is a very common name used by the Nigerian scammers.

In these MoneyGram scams, why do they always want a copy of the receipt? I was looking for a car on CL recently and came across a few bargains. These guys want me to send the money to an auction house or some bogus ebay unit "for my protection" but always want a copy of the receipt before shipping the car to me free.

Craigslist is a great resource for selling things, finding apartments, locating services and meeting people. Most of the time transactions go smoothly and both seller and buyer are satisfied with the Craigslist experience. BUT Danger awaits the unwary buyer or seller on Craigslist. Most these scams follow the same pattern you see on eBay and other online auction sites. so Be careful

I think the federal goverment task force or whoever handles these cases. Should print up fake money that looks close to the real stuff and use it just for cases like this. Then they make up fake or real listings on craiglist and other sites this scam originates from and send them fake money so they can track it. That if you can talk the scammers into letting you send cash directly to whatever address they use without going through something like western union. Fake money would be easier to trace. Once some is cashed.

Huh? That would be a huge waste of time, effort and materials better spent elsewhere.

good idea. I will go ahead and lead these scammers on as long as I have the time to do so
1) Get a big box
2) Fill said box with bricks, rocks, sand, old CRT monitors, etc... anything heavy you have lying around. (Personally I would not use old electronics, the scammer isn't going to properly dispose of them, e-waste does not belong in a landfill.)
3) Print fake cashier's check for the "difference"
4) Tell the scamming bastard they can send UPS for the pick up.
