Firmware change for Linksys BEFCMU10 v4

Inspired from this thread »New Firmware for my SB 5100

I checked my Linksys BEFCMU10 v4's firmware version.

Stock version was: Firmware Version: 2.0.3.4.2-1212

Changed version: Firmware Version: 2.0.3.3.9-1014

No info was evident in my log to this change. All specs remained the same and I've yet to encounter any issues.

@comcast.net

I have noticed this change on mine as well. It happened around August 24. Since then, I've experienced connection drops at least once a week, usually on Saturday mornings. All lights on my modem are steady except the activity light, which (IIRC) follows this cycle: 3 seconds on, brief flash off. During this time, 192.168.100.1 does not respond to pings or HTTP requests from my router. Next time I need to put my router's WAN IP in the same subnet as the modem and try to check it's status.

With the stock firmware for at least 1.5 years prior I've had no issues. I do run bittorrent and block TCP RST packets.

This version is odd to me since it is numerically lower. I've only seen lower numeric versions updated when going from one ISP to another.

My firmware is still 2.0.3.4.2-1212.

I checked and wasn't able to find any documents stating a new firmware push for the BEFCMU10 modems.

not sure when it was changed, there have been a few "overnight maintenance" reboots over the last month or so..

Cable Modem BEFCMU10 ver. 4
Hardware Version v2.0
Software Version 2.0.3.3.9-1014

Now the question is, why would they use an older, out of date firmware?

As you know, my modem received that updowngrade (according to version number) as well.

I see no changes on the config pages and have noticed no issues. I'm not sure when it was done, but I know it was very recently.

Well, even though we all have been accustomed to newer version being numerically higher, I didn't want to assume this version is actually older. Hopefully one of our kind Comcast employees may shed some light on this.

I wondering if, the downgrade (and all the motorola upgrades) are to make it compatible with something coming at the headend like 1}DOCSIS3 2}a useage meter #} some sort of security issue/fix.
I can't remember this many different modems changing configs/software versions all at once.

I will add that firmware updates for Linksys modems are rare.

Addressing the recent approved modem list: This list omits quite a few modems. I can understand finally not supporting any DOCSIS 1.0 modems, but omitting some DOCSIS 2.0 modems that aren't in production is a question.

Particularly since our forum experience with the Linksys BEFCMU10 V4 has been outstanding. You would think, if there is a problem with that modem, there would be evidence here.

Exactly; and one could wonder why we received a firmware change if our modems aren't supported.

The old "approved modem list" had the modem included; now it has been removed on the new list. Are you thinking that this "new" list may be inaccurate?

I didn't know it was ever on the list. New info for me and I am now more curious. Hopefully, somebody will post here to provide some insight:

1. Why has the modem been removed from the supported list?
2. Why has Comcast pushed a firmware change to this unsupported modem?
3. Why does that firmware appear to be older than the firmware which shipped with the modem? Is it older?

If there truly is a problem with the modem, I would appreciate that information so I can make an informed choice.

I went into FAQ: »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »Which modem should I get?

I put back the old list with the current.

Here is the old list: »media2.comcast.net/anon.comcasto···ist1.htm
