Their quality of service and support is several tiers higher than the average provider, but this comes at a price. The service is not cheap, but at least in my case, the uptime and speeds have been very impressive. I currently have the 6.0mbps by 768kbps DSL service which required no land telephone line.
fuziwuzi : I had AT&T DSL 6.0 service without a voice line (naked DSL). You just have to ask and be persistent. There is no technical reason that higher than 1.5M service needs the voice line. Now be sure that the actual speed you get depends on your distance from the CO. The 6.0 service is "up to 6Mbps" but your actual speed will be somewhere between 3.1Mbps and 6Mbps depending on distance. If you get the 3.0 service, your actual speed will be between 1.56Mbps and 3Mbps. Some neighborhoods simply don't support speeds greater than the 1.5Mbps service.
--
***************
I think computer viruses should count as life.
