kjmackenzie : Greeting Chilli...

If I understand your question, you feel you may have problems getting your wireless device e.g. laptop to communicate to the POS?

1. My notebook (IP set to DHCP) communicates okay with the DHCP settings provided by the POS using WPA-PSK TKIP.
2. You may or may not be out of luck for port settings though. The POS is pretty limited although but under Address Translation there is a section called Port By-Pass Configuration (NAPT) that may massage to your requirements and I quote:

"Many applications require special port access to the Internet, and can be enabled using Port By-Pass (NAPT). Here you can enter customized port access for additional applications."

I don't use this feature myself so ...

Good luck.

kjmackenzie : Greetings, Forum Folks.

I called Telus "support" and, as usual, got nowhere fast. I guess the script didn't cover my setup.

Anyway, I've managed to get the SE567 working within my network about as much as I need it to work by implementing most of P2's suggestions as follows:

Telus SE567 RV082 LAN PCs & devices

1. Telus side of the SE567 - DHCP
2. LAN side of the SE567 - massaged default 192.168.254.254
DHCP set to (5) addresses starting at .201
3. SE567 side of the RV082 - static 192.168.254.1 with
DNS set to Telus servers
4. LAN side of the RV082 - static 192.168.10.1 with
DNS set to Telus servers

All is pretty much as it was before the SE567 including upload and download speed and I've retired two old devices.

Exception is as follows:
1. PC wired into the SE567 can communicate with the LAN PCs
if the RV082 firewall is disabled.
2. Wireless PC can't seem to get to the LAN even if the
RV082 firewall is disabled. Can get to Internet ok.
3. No real problem with the above as it indicates that the
double firewall is working and doesn't really impact any
outbound communication. The limitation of not being able
to access the LAN via wireless is acceptable.

Thanks for your suggestions.

anon : You could to try to set your linksys router to use static addressing (say, 192.168.1.64) on the uplink to the SE567.

Then, on the SE567 under Advanced->Local Network->Client Address Allocation, select 'Custom Settings' and have the Siemens trim the DHCP address range as tight as you like.

I still let the 567 offer a couple DHCP addresses for the 567's LAN ports. Wireless clients will use these addresses too, which are outside your firewalled subnet.

If you want your wireless clients to be within your subnet, just continue to use your USR WAP as you have.

On Advanced->Internet->Firewall screen, I've turned off the 567's firewall in order to use my own firewall.

Finally, under the 'Exposed Host' option, enter your Linksys router's static IP address (192.168.1.64 in this example) in the field labelled: "Enable DMZ with this Host IP address".
netwerk : Call Telus and tell them to send you a bridged modem. Speedtouch ST516V6.

Its the modem they use for their "ADSL Lite" customers and managed customers.

If they tell you they can't ask them to escalate the issue to their manager.

You are going to have to explain to them that you use your own router and the router functions on the SE567 are causing problems with your network. You will then have to use your old WAP. If you go SE567 then to the WAN of the RV082 you will have a double NAT and is a pain for port forwarding. You can make it work though but the wireless clients and the wired clients of the RV082 will be on a different subnet. You may be able to put the RV082 into bridged mode but will then lose out on the firewall.

Easiest setup with your RV082 being the firewall for your network is to use a bridged modem like your old one was.

This is just one option, some others here might have a better solution for you.
--
"The views expressed by me are mine alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer"

kjmackenzie : Greetings Forum Folks!

I have received a new Gigaset SE567 from Telus that is meant to replace my outdated 3Com ADSL modem and separate USR wireless access point (WAP).

I have an excellent Linksys RV082 router that, to now, has handled all firewall and DHCP server functions for (6) computers, (2) network printers , and (1) NAS device in my local area network (LAN).

When I attached the SE567 to my LAN I found no way to disable the DHCP and wireless router aspects of the device.

1. Anyone know how I disable the functions described above so that the SE567 acts ONLY as an ADSL modem and ONLY as a WAP allowing the RV082 to continue providing DHCP and Internet firewalling for the LAN?

2. If 1 above is not viable, anyone know how to connect and set the SE567 and RV082 such that I can retain the functionality of the RV082 and still have the devices attached to the RV082 communicate with each other and to the Internet through the SE567 – both wired and wireless?

Thank you for your help.
KJMacKenzie
