Any chance of getting more direct routing to Wikipedia?

Over the past few days I noticed that my requests to en.wikipedia.org seem to be taking a bit longer than usual to respond. So I ran a traceroute today and was more than a bit surprised at the result even with Wiki being located in Tampa.

From my view Im going to SF from San Diego, dumped into Layer42 for a loop which then takes me to Seattle, peers with someone called HGTN (never heard of them before), up to Vancouver BC (!), across to Chicago, through Atlanta and then into Wikipedia. Whoo! What a trip, literally.

Looks like a huge latency jump in the last two hops - when it reaches Wiki. I wonder what the return path looks like. While this path isn't the most direct, it at least has good latency.

Correcting myself here - the big jump is between Layer42 and hgtn. That could be the point where it crosses the country. We're looking at it.

Okie, the route has changed. The alternate and slightly more latency route was a result of us shutting down one of our upstream links due to their network having some trouble. That's been resolved, so it's back online and we're back on the better path.
