I let it autoprogram when I bought the tv about a month ago and it found 65 analog channels and 11 digital channels.
If your cable system is like my parent's TW system, you may have to run the channel scan every few weeks or once a month as they may re-map channels. Their set-tops handle these changes transparently to the user but people using QAM have to deal with it manually.
