| reply to aes128 Same deal for me - 4th call. CSR said I needed a new modem so she I could pick one up tomorrow locally and toss the old webstar dpx100 hardware version 2.1. Then 5 minutes later after a reboot I had 8/1 but had the same old bin file HSD_Advanced3SA11.bin . |

So apparently this means WOW does not know what exactly it's doing or have not communicated this to the phone people. I have the Webstar MODEM:
Hardware Version 1.0 Software Version 1.1.2 r1.1.3.1-050201 (dpx100-v112r1131-rw-050201a.bin) Current Time Thu Sep 18 13:02:24 2008 Time Since Last Reset 0 day 1 hr 55 mins 0 sec Configuration File HSD_Advanced3SA11.bin
But:
Does not appear you need a new MODEM. |

| reply to DJ Matt Just had to call in and ask for the upgrade. The rep said no problem, he was going to reboot the modem and all would be in line. Didn't have to threaten or complain. Counting time on hold, the call took less than 5 minutes. He said because I was rebundling, the overall monthly cost would go down.

| reply to DJ Matt I just reset the modem and have the 8Mb. Using usenet on a 1.7 gig file, it bounces between 800 and 1000KB/sec. Hopefully it stabilizes at some point. I'm very temped to upgrade to the 15Mb tier. -- 'void planets roll regardless of desolation' |

join:2008-05-09 | reply to DJ Matt I'm loving the new speeds. The fastest file I have downloaded so far has been at 752kbps. Before I topped out at 540kbps. For upload, I could only do 60kbps before, but now I can top out at around 137kbps. |

2 edits | reply to DJ Matt With this recent flurry of posts from people saying they were able to get the new speeds after doing a reboot tonight, I figured, what the heck, might as well reboot the aging Motorola Surfboard and give it the old Harvard try. Well, I've run a few speedtests and here's the results:

Obviously the speeds jumped around a bit so I logged onto my Usenet account to see what kind of download speeds I could sustain. Here's a screenshot:

Finally, I tried uploading a file to my FTP account to see what kind of speeds I could get with that. Here's the results:
So I think it's fair to say, at least for now, you don't *absolutely* need a WOW modem to get the advertised speeds. All I got to say is, WOW, you're awesome. I'm running speed tests every five minutes like a paranoid freak, still kind of in awe that I'm getting them. |

| said by omegad :hmmm now this is odd getting the upload but not the down: It seems to do that every now and then. Wait a few minutes, try again, and it should be back to normal. Really, the best way to test is to download a big file from somewhere with a lot of bandwidth and see what kind of speeds you can sustain. |
