anon : My service out in Cedar Park / Leander (goes thru Georgetown) is doing the exact same thing!

It started going bad during Ike, but what is crazy is that traffic that goes from the Austin area to California goes thru Dallas - not thru Houston (which would explain a lot).

I can't play online games, I can't stream video, I can do about anything you can reasonably do on dial up.

As of last night, I cant do anything - I use OpenDNS and can no longer ping my DNS servers (although tracert takes at least 7-9 hops before failing so I know I have packet flow).

This sucks - I am about to look into DSL...

leehrsn : "I prefer using cable but I do have DSL with ATT as a backup and I am going to switch over because this speed issue is ridiculous."

I waited several years for Suddenlink to provide a real 1MB connection but it was always throttled. They gave me many excuses but it finally came down to the fact I was downloading too much, they said, although I thought you pay for the extra speed so you can use it. No matter what they kept me at 256K or less virtually all the time. So I'm switching to DSL, Windstream says there aren't any problems with customers using the connection and it costs about the same as Suddenlink's fake 1MB. So I'm switching in a few days. Good luck with ATT.

atuarre : I am getting terrible download rates on Suddenlink. The service went out during hurricane Ike. Could this be related to all the chaos going on in Houston, with all the peering and stuff (although I am pretty sure Suddenlink passes through Tyler).

I prefer using cable but I do have DSL with ATT as a backup and I am going to switch over because this speed issue is ridiculous.

Please advise.
