So much for company slogans

"Don't Be Evil!" Whatever happen to that slogan Google? Stop trying to take over the world.

very true. What's going to happen is they're going to buy so much at once and not turn a profit on anything. Their entire company will start go to down hill.

nothing good comes from keeping your services in "beta" for years and under lock and key to join.

The only thing they're doing that helps the community is Grand Central which was fine without them. Google took over and locked them down. for what reason? they can control it all.

They're starting to be worse than Microsoft as far as control.

Why is it that when a company becomes successful and tries to expand, they start being labeled "Evil"?

so far i see google making tons of money off of the evil corporations and giving average joe's everything they can possibly use for free or cheap... Seems like they are doing good things so far...

I think a few banks might have told us why.

As someone suggested below, maybe Google will improve features of Steam that map to Google services, such as calendar and email. That could be beneficial to users. And Google as a gaming hub? Welll...

I'm certainly never going to install any closed-source application on my computer if Google is involved in it. If it is eventually required in order to use Google services, I'll have to abandon Google.

The Google toolbar is treacherous enough. Steam is an even more powerful application. To have this installed on millions of PCs and reporting back to an omnivorous data-mining company would remove any remaining validity from the "don't be evil" slogan.

Completely unrelated.

I've always liked Steam and Valve Software...but if Google buys them, I can't help but get the feeling Valve wouldn't be the same again.

In general I just don't like the idea of game companies buying other companies out and take overs and mergers and all that crap. In most cases it doesn't turn out good and at the rate companies are buying each other out we're going to end up with one single game company and a whole lot of small independent studios..

Nah, not unrelated. If google wants into the gaming industry, they can start making their own games, if they want into the content delivery game they can make their own program. This is about them taking over an established company, not making their own way.

That said, I am quite a fan of both Google and Steam.
