Re: [iO] FIOS & Cable box use coax, so are they both just as fas

JAA___ The 165 number is cable length in meters not gbps but whatever the number coax will be fast enough. fiber vs coax »ikeelliott.typepad.com/telecosm/···oax.html

Correct - I misread the table in the article. The coax used by Cablevision is capable of delivering 1.5gigabit speed.

Right now there is no difference between what is delivered over coax and what is delivered over fiber - they all deliver the same thing (TV, internet, and phone).

FIOS TV picture quality is superior to Cablevisions in every way. I had a chance to look at it the other day, and you can't see compression in the picture.

Not only that, but their GUI and user interface is much, much better. Oh, and pressing the guide button actually brings up the guide.... instantly. Plus there channel selection is pretty damn good. I still think Cablevision should add the East and West feeds of all the movie channels, plus their HD counterparts. It would make their movie package more attractive... I personally don't care that the west feeds are delayed.. it's still nice to time shift.. I used to get East and West local channels on DirecTV.. it was great, especially in primetime when you forget to set your DVR, or if the DVR doesn't record... you can catch up 3 hours later when it airs on the west coast.

Cablevision needs to spend the money to upgrade their plant capacities to handle more channels, they need to do away with analog, and start adding channels that FIOS has. And then they need to ease up on compression.

YEs and one of the ways to do that is to do what verizon has done since april get rid of the analog channels.

People in here dont want cablevision to do that though and still want verizon quality channels.

analog?

if you have a cable box than your getting a digital tv signal now all cablevisions lines are digital its just the prelaid analog coax lines already run through the house that people dont want to replace that is limiting people and making them see a lower quality tv signal im experiancing that problem right now the reason its so much better on fios is because the fios guys lay new cable through the house(i talked to one). i think both have then same tech and quality i like optimum because it has boost with 30/5 and i consistently get 25/4 or higher.

Cablevision is compressing the picture. I have new lines in my house and the picture quality is terrible. Even from across the room.

Oh, and when I suggested on the Yahoo board that the picture quality should get better when analog channels were dumped the last time I was pretty much laughed at. Seems Cablevision is happy with the quality right now.

Maybe for you... the Equator channel on Voom looks great on my HD sets, as does FoodTV and the other HD channels.

There is proof that they compress the channels floating around on this board. Cablevision has 3 and in some instances 4 HD channels in frequencies that are only designed for two. So if you think they look good, that's your opinion, but I'm telling you real HD looks a lot better and Cablevisions HD could look a lot better.

CV DOES carry the West Coast Feeds of the Movie Channels already (or are you saying that some of the Channels are not also available as their 3-hour delayed West Coast Feeds)?

FIOS Carries all the west coast feeds... cablevision only carries select west coast feeds.

that came across wrong, i apologize. But I still think Cablevision needs to ease up on the compression... 4 hd channels on one frequency is just not good.
