GREAT! Traded 502 errors for 400 errors in NG's

Still,yet,and again!

Just because it is now a 400 error instead of a 502 error, it does not mean the problem is resolved.
12 disconnects while in newsgroups.
Is this to discourage the use of newsgroups ????

Hi combdyn -

I just got an email from the news group provider that they are going to be making some changes to their network this upcoming week that should help resolve some of their issues. They have a new farm in the same facility that the news4.dslextreme.com farm is hosted in. It will require that client reload their newsgroups to move over to the new farm. We will be sending out a notification later this week regarding the time and change. In the meantime I would recommend using news4.dslextreme.com.

Thanks

I find it interesting that I can have over 20 disconnects in one day, file a complaint, and then have no disconnects for a period. I do not reset the modem, don't reboot the computer, nothing! Absolutely no actions on my part, yet there is no problem found, and NG use returns to normal.

I sure would like to know what happens when a "ticket is opened",because I have been complaining of this problem for some time. I believe it is a Qwest problem, but all I have ever gotten from DSLX is "we don't see the problem",and "we opened a ticket" on it.
(just got disconnected again)
This really sucks.
maybe I need to back to dial-up

Are you using your landline to call support? When you pick up the phone, the voltage that goes through the line can temporarily "seal" a bad cable joint. So if your line has intermittent problems, picking up the phone may "solve" the for a short period of time. That might explain why the problem goes away every time you try to report the issue.

More info here:
»Ameritech - SBC FAQ »DSL works only with phone off-hook, known as High Open

Next time you start having problems with dropped connections, try calling support with your cell phone.

NO
Phone is not in use, being used,ringing,off-hook,nothing.

over 20 disconnects yesterday in 5 hour frame. Same period today = 2 disconnects.

In other words, the less the phone gets used, the more you may have certain types of problems. When you called support, did you use your landline or a cell?

I have not;
1.a cell phone
2.CALLED support.
I have emailed them.
By the time my complaint is addressed, the problem disappears.

As this has been a ongoing problem, I have found support to be lacking. Numerous times I have been advised that :a ticket was opened: with the telco. To date I have not been contacted about OLD "tickets". Each time I complain, the problem seems resolved for a week or two.
There appears no causal-effect relationship to phone usage.

Interesting that these 502 errors in the newsgroups are now starting down here (San Diego County)... only this time they are accompanied by a rather ominous message:

"Error reported by Server: 502 news.dslextreme.com: Access denied to your node - support@dslextreme.com"

Sounds kinda final... I didn't even know I had a "node" to be denied.

Same problems here (Riverside CA) at 6:45 AM. "Access Denied To Your Node."

UPDATE: Seems I can "Access my node" now... the 502's have ceased, so far. Just waiting to see what will happen over the next 24 hours, hopefully. Thanks for the prompt fixin', guys.

UPDATE: after 1 week

No contact from DSLX or Qwest AT ALL about the problem,
yet I get a email saying the ticket is closed, and asking me to fill a survey out about the DSLX service.

EVEN THE SURVEY FORM DOES NOT WORK!
LINK SENDS YOU TO A QUESTION EMAIL FORM THAT CANNOT BE SENT!

What type of router are you using? Are you making the PPPoE connection in the router? Do you have the router set to "keep alive?"

It appears that you are losing connection to the newsgroups because of your IP changing. From what I can see, Qwest hasn't been able to find any issues on their end. If you have keep alive enabled maybe try removing the router and running with the modem directly connected to the computer to see if that makes a difference.

What led you to believe I bought a router since you asked me the last timne?

I HAVE NO ROUTER. THE MODEM IS CONNECTED DIRECTLY BETWEEN THE PHONE JACK AND THE COMPUTER.

My IP is changing because I am being disconnected.
Once again. NO ROUTER.

It seems appropriate for me to ask you, George;
Why send a request for a satisfaction survey, only to have the form at the link waste my time by filling it out (even though the link takes you to a "submit a question" form instead of a real "survey" form), and then not being able to send the form at all.
Good way to receive no questions, or surveys!
