Is Mountain starting to throttle newsgroups?

I have noticed lately that my speeds when downloading from usenet are all over the place. I used to max out my connection with a solid green graph. Now it's very spiky as seen in the screenshot. Anyone else notice this?

I haven't been downloading a lot lately but when i first got hooked up i remember pulling a solid 600KB/s when using their usenet. Then i remember shortly after they went to 6mbps my usenet speeds were kind of like yours but not as bad. Somewhere inbetween all of that there was the numerous problems usenetserver was experiencing with the Too Many Connection errors and bw problems.

With that said, I just loaded up about a GB worth of data and let it run for a bit and I am noticing some inconsistency but overall its not too bad.

In the second graph, the dotted horizontal line is the avg speed, the peaks are anywhere between 715KB/s and 730KB/s, with the lows around 550KB/s. Definitely room to improve, I wonder what its going to be like when they move to 7mbps.

Mine is absolutely terrible.

Could this be because we now have a 2nd phone line into the cable modem?

Good here now

Give it some time siouxie, if its still like that after a few days give them a call. But adding another phone line shouldn't effect your speeds.

That looks like a line or signal issue. Can you log into your modem and check the signal levels?

Sorry have been away from forum for a while so.. signal levels - noise ratio is:

Signal to Noise Ratio: 41 dB

This has changed since we had the 2nd line installed - previously it was a lot lower.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

SNR is the decibel difference measured between the signal and noise below it

I.E. The bigger the number the better

Now we just need a recieve level and a transmit level.

I can't see that on the modem interface any idea where it might be? Thanks for the assistance!

Try to type or click in »192.168.100.1/

Opps, I thought you didn't know how to view the diagnostics page.
