[DSL] Problem with AOL 9.0 browser

This is a strange one for me. Friends have AOL 9 with DSL on a desktop and laptop. The desktop is 9.1 and is directly connected to a Linksys router and then to a Verizon Westell DSL modem. That works fine (somewhat slow because of the other crap they have on the system.) The laptop is weird. It has 2 separate windows login. Under one login, AOL 9.0 works fine. Under another login, it will get mail and show the buddy list BUT will not open the browser and another window which I THINK is a Google search box.

Any ideas? I already re-installed the software once and it did no good.

Re: [DSL] Problem with AOL 9.0 browser

Our desktop and no problem, but my laptop had a similar problem. No workaround would eliminate the problem, so I re-installed the AOL software. That did the trick, but...never knew what the problem was.

Did you remove the AOL software completely before re-installing? I tried the repair mode and that did nothing to solve the headache.

I'll keep track of your progress here on DSLReports.

G'luck,

I did what I thought was a complete removal but must not have. I'll try again but the friends I am dealing with are PARANOID about losing any data.

Re: [DSL] Problem with AOL 9.0 browser

If you save the proper files, *.pfc, the global thing, etc. then there's no problem. I've gone so for as to make backup copies and offload to a disk/thumb drive.

Much of what they need is kept on AOL's servers. Buddy list and the like. They can also chose to save emails to AOL's web space by toggling that feature in the future.

Anyone that keeps AOL now has probably had it for a long time. I understand the paranoia. I would hate to give up an email address that I have had since the 80's.
