Attorney Beckerman can post anything on his blog about cases he is defending, as long as the information is not covered by attorney client privilege. The RIAA has filed a slapp suit. The reason businesses file slapp suits is to deprive citizens of their right to free speech. These suits are filed to shut up citizens complaining to the government or press about some action the businesses are about to engage or are engaging in that will adversely affect them. One purpose of a slapp suit is to force those citizens filing complaints to pay attorneys excessive legal fees to defend them against the suits. The slapp suit serves as punishment for filing the complaints. Usually when a decision is made the business dismisses the complaint while the citizens are left with huge legal bills.
