What DirecTV has going for it is

NFL Sunday Ticket.
I'm sure that I'm not alone in saying that if not for the NFL package, I would be using another provider today.
Go ahead and try to order it ala carte - you can't. They know its the biggest asset they have.

I've been saying for over a year that if Verizon were smart and wanted to eliminate one part of its competition and put a large dent in the cable part of its competition all they have to do is bid LARGE for the NFL Sunday Ticket package. They need to dig very deep and overpay for that package and the future of FiOS TV would be secured, indeed the returns from Verizon's investment in fiber would be secured.

I couldn't agree more. as long as they are the only game in town for the nfl, they have a strong position.

The NFL will never do an exclusive deal with anyone other than DirecTV. The only other logical choice for it would be Dish Network, but they will never have the money to pull that deal off. These are the only two companies with a national footprint.

The MSO's would have to get together and put up a lot of money to snare this package away from DirecTV, and they would have to do it together otherwise the NFL would have no interest. That would also have to include MSO's in Canada, Mexico, and Latin America as the ticket is available from DirecTV in all of those markets.

It's also my understanding that the NFL likes this arrangement because it doesn't take away from local affiliates add revenues which would be lost if cable was carrying the ticket.

Canada has Sunday Ticket package on cable and sat with no.

Cable get it no way they don't even have mlb extra innings in HD direct TV dose.

WRONG, InDemand is what supplies all the cable companies with PPV viewing. So they have a national footprint too.

This is false. Games shown on the local stations are blacked out from Sunday Ticket. So how are local affiliates losing money? I live in Tennessee, I'm a Bucs fan. If I have Sunday Ticket and watching a Bucs game who am I taking away revenue from some Nashvile station showing a Titans game? I'm not watching it anyways. And if the local Fox station happens to show a Bucs game, guess what, it's blacked out from Sunday Ticket.

The NFL need to get into the the 21st century and also offer online streaming if they are going to keep Sunday Ticket a DirecTv exclusive.
