For exapmle, running on a Linksys WRT54G, the max wireless speed is well below 50Mbps, probably more like 20Mbps or so. Also not sure what the maximum WAN port speed is but I would guess it is below 50Mbps.
So anyone upgrading to this new speed may have to make a bunch of hardware changes to their router and wireless cards to take advantage of the 50Mbps tier.
Good point. Making use of the new capability could involve large increases in costs for the homeowner. And even if they stay with lower speeds on multiple laptops/desktops, the need to upgrade routers will almost be a necessity.
