Re: [iO] FIOS & Cable box use coax, so are they both just as fas

I was merely pointing out your misconception that HD is uncompressed on FiOS. It's still compressed, just not by Verizon. Not even talking about CV here.. It's just unfair to say HD on Verizon is uncompressed when it definitely is not.

There is a big difference... Verizon passes the HD as they receive it onto the customer... Cablevision USED to do that, but on some channels, they are compressing them too much. I was amazed at the SD picture quality on Verizon as well... not only was Verizon passing the HD signal to customers as they receive it... they appear to be passing the SD signal the same way... and they have more SD channels, without the use of Switched Video... so if you ask me, it's clear that Fiber is much, much more robust. Cablevision needs to upgrade so they have more space... getting rid of analog will help, but the fact remains they are using SDV, which is horrible. And that suggests that they aren't going to be upgrading, but instead squeezing whatever they can into the space they currently have.

That's nice and all.. but completely ignoring my point. I never said Verizon's PQ isn't higher than CV's. I have no idea if it is, as I don't have either service.

The person I was replying to stated FiOS is uncompressed video. It is not. End of story. Doesn't matter how much better than CV it is, that's not even the point. It's still compressed.

But that point is all semantics... digital video is always compressed somehow... even in the facility it originates from, it's compressed...

You do realise that verizons video is setup pretty much the same way right?

The thing is that nobody complained when verizon got rid of their analog but you guys complain when cablevision wants to do it.

verizon uses the same 850mhz type system . When cablevision gets rid of all their analog and upgrades to docsis 3 we should see better pic quality.

If I remember, Verizon also charges no fee for the first 3 HD boxes. With cablevision, you'd be paying about $20 in rental fees per month for that equipment. You might not pay an HD channel fee, but you do pay rental fees on the boxes.

Verizon is swarming my town as we speak, and I talked to a tech- it's FiOS, and it should be ready to order by the end of 2008. I might switch, but Cablevision's service has been good for me. If they're willing to compete (even if I have to call retentions), I might stay.
