In the U.S., they don't charge states taxes to the places they don't have warehouses, And i don't believe they have more that one or two shipping centers right now in Canada...EDIT: Probable reason: They don't ship from within canada.... Which makes me wonder how they get around the UPS border fee rip-off... Newegg pays the taxes and border fees on your behalf, after you pay them of course. |

| reply to TigerLord I guess I'm the only dissenter amongst the group..
I did a pricematch "comparison" if you will of like parts, and found that Newegg, even with the taxes and UPS (UPS isn't too bad in my neck of the woods) shipping fees, it was cheaper than buying @ NCIX.
If you are looking for specific parts, maybe NCIX is the way to go, but for my folks, I was just pricing out a barebones system for them that at least brings them into the 21st century, but heck they don't game or have bells and whistles...I'm replacing an ancient Celery 800mhz box here .
It was cheaper for me to get an ECS board/E1200 combo, 250gb hdd/2 gig ram/new power supply, shipping/tax in $291.89 at newegg
$304.69 at ncix
So not a huge difference, but to wait for shipping from out west, takes longer, UPS is generally faster in my area.
I don't have any other viable options, all the computer stores in this city are way over-priced, so...online is really my only option.
And hey if I can save 13 bucks...I'll save it...but yeah it doesn't seem as bad for me for what I want, but as they say to each their own. |

| reply to DKS said by DKS :I can't find that statement on their web site, however. And it would seem to run against UPS practice. Normally, in my experience, they collect that amount on delivery. It's a pre-cleared drop shipment. Newegg doesn't have a shipping warehouse in Canada, but they do have a business number and are a "Non-Resident Importer". Your order is placed through the Canadian office. They do a pre-cleared drop shipment from the warehouse in the US - all duties, taxes, etc. are processed as if the shipment was from "Newegg US to Newegg Canada" - and are charged to the Newegg business number - while the package actually goes to your location.
UPS will just charge standard shipping fees to Newegg, and a small "handling" fee for processing the parcels at customs. Want to know more read here: »www.carson.ca/memorandum/NRI_FAQ.pdf
This used to be something I did regularly - but on the Canadian side as an importer - I got an "RM" number (it looks just like a GST number but ends in RM0001 instead of RT0001) -- when I was having things sent from suppliers in the US I supplied that RM number and whoever the carrier was, they would just give customs the invoice and my RM number. I would then be "obliged" to file RM returns to Canada Customs and make estimated payments and essentially a tax return annually to pay for imports.
This essentially lets Newegg use whichever shipper gave them the lowest rates and best terms, and your shipping fees are still manageable and similar to if you bought from a Canadian located retail business. You don't get "UPS-raped". |

They could specify that the package has been assigned to another broker (not UPS) when shipping it. That broker could then bill Newegg for brokerage and taxes. Not saying they do that, but that's how it would be done.
If I'm ever forced against my will to get things shipped from the US via UPS I always make sure they have the package signed over to myself as a broker. It's cheaper for me to drive 2 hours each way and deal with it by hand than to pay UPS to do it (Seriously! Cheaper in gas *and* time!) Of course, normally I just avoid doing business with any US company that won't ship via USPS, or at _least_ FedEx. |

Bought a Logitech mouse there a month or so ago $15 cheaper than NCIX's sale price.
Even A-Power is trying to play the NCIX weeky sale game. All this makes for fantastic computer prices in the Vancouver area.

Normally, in my experience, they collect that amount on delivery. They do the same thing that TigerDirect does. They collect the taxes at purchase time, and act as the broker themselves (or have a third party do it). Even though the package ships from the US, UPS is not the broker and it doesn't cost you anything to receive it. Otherwise it would be double taxation. |

| reply to TigerLord I just priced out a system I recently purchased at NCIX.. It was almost $200 more at Newegg. Mind you, the items where not on sale at Newegg, but still. And UPS only? 1 edit | reply to TigerLord As predicted, this is a huge bust.
The US Newegg prices are on par with Canada Computers, but the Canadian Newegg jacks them up another 10%.
You can compare the difference easily by taking any product page and changing newegg.ca to newegg.com in the URL. |

| reply to nitzguy Hey Nitzguy, I received an email from Acer with a $399 price which includes a 19" widescreen display. Comes with dual core 2200 intel, 320 gig hard drive and Nvidia graphics. I know a lot of people here will flame Acer, but honestly, I bought 2 so far with no issues whatsoever. pm me if you are interested, and I will send you the email I received. |

No extra work would be needed that way. Yeah, but the tax situation blows. they charge it like they had a local store here... Once you're nabbed by the customs system, GST and PST is automatically charged (I think it used to be only GST for awhile). Ironically you can order from within Canada (like from NCIX in BC) and not have to pay PST if you're in Ontario. The legal rationale with Customs is quite simple: while we have you hanging upside down from a tree, we may as well take what's in your wallet. Plus, similar to courier brokerage fees, with Canada Post there is an extra charge for the valuable service of hanging you up from a tree and stealing your wallet.
The nice thing is when you get in under the radar and nothing is charged; I think that's nominally supposed to be for items valued at $20 or less but more expensive stuff often makes it through unscathed, especially if it's small. -- "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity" -- a corollary of Murphy's Law "A dog is like a child who never grows old ... always there to love and be loved" -- Aaron Katcher
