Once again, UPS WILL NOT charge brokerage, they have a contract with NewEgg. If they make an error, the customer can either decline the delivery or pay the fees and call NewEgg for reimbursement.

You will never pay UPS brokerage fees on anything bought from NewEgg Canada - guaranteed. I've already bought 4 things from them in the last week, 2 shipments came from NJ, one from Minneapolis, and one from Calif. - they were delivered exactly like UPS had delivered them from across town - delivery guy shows up with his tablet, has me sign the line, hands me the box, walks away. No fees, no costs, nothing - but that's why even small items have shipping costs like $15-$16.

You sure about that? Their website is pretty vague on the whole shipping thing. They only discuss taxes that are applied to your order depending on where you live in Canada (due to most items being imported into Canada).

UPS Standard service has brokerage fees applied after. UPS Expedited generally has it included in the shipping cost.

I think the $5 may be the GST "handling fee".

UPS is the worst I have used for brokerage fees. FedEx is better but not by that much. When I was buying antique pocket watches on eBay some sellers would only ship UPS. You really had to watch (pardon the pun) what you bought as the UPS brokerage fees could be 33% of the cost of the watch.

If what you buy can fit in a standard envelope it will go right through Customs. People who collect stamps or old paper money laugh all the time. My buddy is a paper money collector. He paid $400 for an old (1920's) Bank of Nova Scotia $10 bill....slid right through customs. Yet I can buy a none working 100 year old pocket watch for $40 and I'll have to pay GST. If the watch price is much over that I'll get nailed for an "excise tax". The weird part is it's hit and miss. You never know what you'll be hit with.

I did a pricematch "comparison" if you will of like parts, and found that Newegg, even with the taxes and UPS (UPS isn't too bad in my neck of the woods) shipping fees, it was cheaper than buying @ NCIX.

If you are looking for specific parts, maybe NCIX is the way to go, but for my folks, I was just pricing out a barebones system for them that at least brings them into the 21st century, but heck they don't game or have bells and whistles...I'm replacing an ancient Celery 800mhz box here :).

It was cheaper for me to get an ECS board/E1200 combo, 250gb hdd/2 gig ram/new power supply, shipping/tax in
$291.89 at newegg

$304.69 at ncix

So not a huge difference, but to wait for shipping from out west, takes longer, UPS is generally faster in my area.

I don't have any other viable options, all the computer stores in this city are way over-priced, so...online is really my only option.

And hey if I can save 13 bucks...I'll save it...but yeah it doesn't seem as bad for me for what I want, but as they say to each their own.

In the U.S., they don't charge states taxes to the places they don't have warehouses, And i don't believe they have more that one or two shipping centers right now in Canada...

NCIX not charging 8% PST for Ontario residents is a major competitive advantage, as are their low cost shipping deals.
