Exactly! What an incredible rip-off text messages are. Verizon should lower the price since they're eliminating features.

Remember when AOL used to charge 25 cents to send an email? What a joke that was.

Everyone here claims "If you don't like the charges, take your business elsewhere, etc, etc." I don't know of any wireless phone companies providing free, unlimited txt messaging. This will only get worse as these companies continually raise SMS prices.

They are not free but....

We have unlimited family text & multimedia messaging with AT&T for $30 per month.

All together we send about 4000-5000 messages per month, most of that by our daughters in high school & college.

That works out to less than a penny per message. Just 200 messages would put me below .20 per message.

Most cell companies have some sort of unlimited messaging plan available for purchase. Anyone sending more than a hundred messages a month or so will come out ahead on one of those plans.

Then stop texting. Just send an email with the data plan - no extra charges. Or sign up for a text plan that will cut costs tremendously.

Exactly. I think I pay $5/month extra for the lowest packages of texts which is still an amount I'd never go over. I don't even have to worry about it.

And if I'm worried someone didn't get my text - if it was truly that important I'd just call the damn person. No one calls anyone anymore.

or if you want to keep texting and you have a data plan with your phone just do the text through your email (10digitphonenumber@vtext.com) that works too.

hahaha... I call BS on this one. I've had a lot of texts that didn't get sent to the recipient or didn't come to me. I've also had texts delayed 7 hours. They can claim all they want, but that is just false.

yeah penny per txt seems good, but you are still getting ripped off. Besides really who is going to send 4000-5000 txts a month? I think that is retarded. You have the phone in your hands, phones are meant for TALKING.

Oh and don't forget if you send a txt to someone your plan you are getting charged TWICE.

Not only that, but SMS messages and confirmations are not on the data network, so getting rid of confirmations has nothing to do with saving data bandwidth to improve email and browsing throughput. SMS is on the voice signaling channel. Yet more fud spread by the big V.

Hey grandpa, the 70's called, they want their rotary phone back. Cell phones are more then just phones now with how tech is advancing. Alot of people don't grasp the concept of texting, but its more convenient and less annoying for a good amount. I'm not a heavy user of it but I do text a fair amount, its just more convenient to type something up, send it off, and resume what I was doing.

WTF are you talking about getting charged twice? He said he had an UNLIMITED PLAN. Unlimited means it doesn't matter how many texts you send.

Hey, VZ, if your network didn't suck with that pedophile following everyone around, they wouldn't need a confirmation. LOL

Um how is texting more convienent that SPEAKING? I'm 100% sure I can say whatever it is what you are texting faster than you can text it.

WTF are you talking about getting charged twice? He said he had an UNLIMITED PLAN. Unlimited means it doesn't matter how many texts you send.
List Einstien, 1¢ worth of data = 670,000 txt messages assuming you use all 160 bytes. Considering most unlimited plans are at minimum $20 a month that's 1.3 BILLION txt messages. Please try and tell me this guy and his family is sending 1.3 BILLION txt messages a month. He says he sends 5000 a month. That should cost at most 1/100 of a cent.

Try doing math. Bandwidth cost less than 10 cents per GB that's GIGAbyte. Txt messages are at most 160 BYTES. So it take at least 6.7 MILLION txt messages to = 1 GB of data.

So not only are you arguing that text messages cost too much in a day and age when they should not, you are arguing that the user is sending TOO many text messages in todays day and age, and that it is absurd.

I have an unlimited text option on my plan, and I personally send 450 - 500 texts a month.

You've got to realize that the BIG MOFO COSTS that everyone is talking about is PER SMS. It is for people who are NOT on a text plan, which believe it or not if NOT THAT MANY PEOPLE. Most people who WOULD be affected by high SMS costs are already ON plans that negate these costs. If you are sending 50 texts a month without a plan, it ain't your providers fault.

Not to mention, who the hell cares if you get a confirmation? North of of the border here in Canada, such a thing is unheard of. I've never, ever, received a confirmation. Most (if not all) of my messages simply get through. And if they don't, they get que'd, and then sent at a time when the user is capable of receiving it.
