How many bits of data are required for a confirmation?
Thats what I was thinking. Freeing up their network - its just an excuse. They can actually get away with using 1 bit for a response - simply a yes or a no (0 or 1) so I don't understand how important it is to eliminate and how it will really help their network.

How bought just upgrade your network!

A 1bit response is not possible. How would it know where to send the 0 or 1 to? You still need a packet header that includes at least the destination of the 0 or 1 response. Which would at least be the phone number, which would have to be represented by 40 bits. Not to mention that you need some bits to tell the receiving phone that it's an SMS message, as well as which SMS message was being confirmed.

If a phone just received a 0 or 1 all by itself, how exactly would it know what it's for? Or even if it was the phone that was supposed to get the message?
