I just recently upgraded my Verizon Online DSL from 3 mbits to 7.1 mbits. I was wondering if these modem stats are considered acceptable. According to Verizon tech support I am 7,454 feet from my local central office. These stats are posted from a Westell 2200 modem. Any information given will be greatly appreciated. |

2 edits | Thanks for your reply, Smith6612. I recently received a Actiontec GT704WG modem from Verizon, so I just tried that modem instead of my 4 year old Westell 2200. The SNR on the downstream is now 14, where it was 6 with the Westell. The only problem I seem to have with the Actiontec is the speed it syncs up at which is 7548/863 where as the Westell synced up at 7616/864. Otherwise it seems to be a stable connection. I have also posted speed test results using the Speakeasy NYC server. |

| Rule of thumb, is that atten times 250 is approximate loop length in wire feet. 39 (best) X 250 = 9750. Remember that it's more of a capacity qualifier, than an actual length measurement. You could have a considerable length of bridge tap (your pair extending well beyond your home), or other factors involved. Hopefully a tech will find the cause and remove/repair it. |

1 edit | reply to dataice Also to note, if the tech doesn't find anything, maybe having him switch your line mode to ADSL2 or ADSL2+ can help you get more speed. Right now you are just running regular ADSL, and with ADSL2 or ADSL2+, because of the way they work they allow you to have a more stable line with more speed over longer lines. It probably won't help too much, but should certainly boost the sync rates a little more. |

3 edits | Verizon said switching my line to ADSL2/ADSL2+ isn't possible at this time because that would entail upgrading the entire DSLAM at my local central office. Which would be cost prohibitive. I had to call 5 different departments to get this information, as the reps from India had no clue as to what I was talking about. |

@wildblue.net | reply to dataice Are you losing sync? It looks like you're getting your full 7mbps and a bit more. |

1 edit | No, not losing sync. Line is very stable. Just getting weird sync rates (changes everytime I reboot modem), but for the most part I am holding around 6.4/6.5 mbits down and 700-730K on upstream(after overhead). I'm happy for now. |

@verizon.net | reply to dataice you may be on the firing of the dsl length try asking them to slow your speed down and run line test thru dsl reports and see what happens |
