cable box/remote problems

anon : I had an old hd box with cablevision and a 42"plasma tv and everything was ok until i decided to buy a new 52"lcd 800 series samsung that had an hdmi input. I called cablevision and they gave me a new box because the old one did not have the hdmi. I connected it and the problems started. Most of the time the box would not respond to the remote. When i try to change the channel entering the #s it does not respond. When i try to go up or down the channels it would start scrolling fast all by itself. And some times i can not turn the box off with the remote though i can from the box.
I called the company and they sent a new box and a new remote with a technician that installed it. It worked a couple of days and it started again.
I called again and while on the phone they asked me to change the batteries on the remote. It worked about a day and it started the same thing again.
I will call them again and see what they are going to do next. Meanwhile i would appreciate any help from you guys.
Thanks
