WTF??? how come i keep getting these speeds from 6pm to 2am??? this has been going on for the last 4 months and all i get from timewarner is reboot my modem?? this is fraud, how can they advertise 10mbps and not deliver?? someone with a high status should sue there ass
Get a Motorola SB6120 and have Time Warner provision that modem....no more slowdowns.
well well well... i am feeling like a total douche right about now.. for the last 6 months i have been calling and complaining on the phone and on the forums about time warner cable being one of the worst internet service providers anyone could imagine.
Today around 9pm the peak hour of when i get very slow download speeds i decided to unplug my router and connect the modem directly to the computer so i can get at least an average of 1mbps download.. but all of sudden i was getting a full 10mbps download speed and it hasn't gone down since. I then started to think "wow all this time i was receiving 10mbps and my F... router has slowed my speeds during 6pm to 3am" so then how is that possible??

I then thought "well rush hour starts at 5pm and everyone should be home by 6pm, kids, teachers etc.. anyone with 9-5 job pretty much is home at 6pm.." oh and i guess they go to sleep at 3am because that's when my speeds ran back up. Now me living in a apartment building in the middle of flushing i must be getting interference with the hundreds or maybe thousands of wireless signals around me. I then connected the wireless router again and i was back to my 1-2 mbps. So then i was determined to find a way to either block other wifi signals, which obviously i cant, i then decided to find a way to make my signal the strongest in my apartment building so i can prevail through all other signals and make a strong connection with minimal interference. I looked up DD-WRT firmware and installed it in my WRT600N.. i Went to TX power and cranked it to 251..

I know its taking a risk because of possible overheating but i said what the heck.. Ive been so pissed off about getting bad signal i was at a point that if i wouldn't be able to use the internet i wasn't going to care. So after cranking the TX power to 251 i was receiving my full 10mbps!!! So could it have been there was stronger signal interrupting my connection?? I encourage everyone with a linksys wireless router living in a populated area and has slow downloads only between the usual 6pm to 3am to get a custom DD-WRT firmware and cranking there TX power up to the recommended maximum of 251.

By the way you have to have a compatible Linksys router to use the DD-WRT custom firmware. I have a WRT600N. here is the link www.dd-wrt.com

May i remind you that its extremely risky to flash your router with a custom firmware. It even voids your waranty. But if you decide to do it.. you can expect the results from below.. a good 12mbps down and 0.7 mbps up Remeber to crank that TX Power Up to safe level, i put mine to 251, but thats because i dont care if it breaks, cause i can just go buy a new one.. so those that cant afford to buy a new router at these rough times, then i suggest you dont mess with it.

You could also change the wireless channel to get a better signal. It's the 15Mbit/768kbit plan.

What speed tier are you on? With the 1mb upload, you should be getting a higher download speed. The standard tier with TW is 10MB/s download and 512kdps upload.

Dareius,

try going to the Store in Queens Center Mall and swap out your Modem. Maybe they'll give you a Docsis 3 one? You never know with these guys and gals
I am one of those that has to wait until they have one that works with the digital phone service.

I was considering dropping the phone service and going with the new Motorola after reading all the success stories of posters on here, but then had a double take and went the direction of my original post.

As soon as I hear or read news of a DOCSIS 3.0 modem that works with their digital phone service, I will make plans to go to the QCM office for an exchange.

I wonder if time warner now would supply docsis 3.0 modems even for standard , turbo users. Would we have slowdowns again? since not too many people know about this
This is my concern. I should not have to put out $100 for my own modem to correct or pacify issues on their network.

For those customers wanting the best of the best equipment on the network, all power to them, but the standard equipment should work properly with the network in place without going to extremes and shelling out extra cash just to attain the advertised speeds.

IP change. Someone on my nod has extreme, My assumption.

last night's peak hour speeds.

2pm;

I was going through all my results, this isn't my speed test but it's someones that i found on the speedtest record from july.

So dissapointed. I don't know what TWC is doing with my nod but they keep switching it around every month, And it gets slower and slower. I would get 5mbps durng peak and now I can't even hit 2mbps. Sigh.
Im waiting till blackfriday to get the docsis 3 modem, yes im cheap

This is nice.

So does it Mean NJ and NY are only getting wideband?

Yesterday for couple minutes on each speed test I would hit 40 mbps(and again I am only on turbo)

The speed test below with 6 ping means everything is Ok.

Hey guys,

I'm in Palisades Park NJ and I tried getting the modem after reading this post.

Got the modem to work, but my channel frequency is 687mhz and I don't see any channel bonding going on.

Does that mean my node has only one downstream channel?
Yes I dont think docsis 3.0 from RR is comin to NJ

but do a speed test see if your ping is better and speeds
Hi all,

I had bought the Motorola DOCSIS3.0 Modem a couple weeks ago, only to be disappointed to discover there is only a single channel coming in in my area. (Palisades park, NJ) I put off returning the modem because I got lazy and all, but alas came good news.

There was a major outage of internet two days ago and after that, the backbone in our region seems to have been upgraded to wideband. The internet is going on and off right now (probably because they are working on it) but I am getting four downstream channels bonded.

The speed and the latency are fantastic compared to what I've been getting for months. I couldn't figure out how to place the image in this text, but the top image is the result at 2:30AM now.

Anyway, just wanted to inform the fellow Jersey Boys that finally we don't have to suffer from terrible RR.

And I'd like to thank everyone for sharing this method.

I as upset the other day, sunday I believe.

I was in new jersey, right on the water facing manhattan at my friends place, and all night I could not download any faster then 150KB/sec.

I mean this is pathetic. that and 100ms pings on the RR network a few hops away.

That was insane. I dont get why RR doesn't increase their backbone bandwidth and use more redundency. Cheap company, they will never change.

2.2 MB/s, turbo plan, 5:48 pm, 11/07

splendid speed in terms of the time i testes: the 5:48 pm, when usually i'm near dead in this crowded node.

Maybe what i saw outside this afternoon, that a bunch of TWC trucks and workers hanging around doing some establishment to the wire along the block, is actually doing some good.
