[ Mobile] Bell will be 'throttling' free Blackberry GPS Apps

Every time Bell does something they just shove their foot deeper up their ass and make the company look like a complete idiot.

Don't worry, one of these times they will overstep their boundary and upset a large number of customers.

I do wonder how this new development will affect them. I would suspect that a lot of people use the GPS system in their blackberries.

better assholes

haven't they done this before (a few times over)?

People just keep leaving then Bell puts out ads saying their better.

better assholes (deep ones) is the only thing that makes any sense really.

Is it true Bell gave GPSnav free to employee so they can then tell (potential) customers how great their GPS app is?

Someone post the leaked memo pls.

What date does this go into effect?

Not like I understood it.

Maybe a bell employee can explain, if this is true.

I've been doing some digging and checked with some colleagues within Mobility and no one seems to know anything about this.

There's no scripting of any kind either that's been released to any of the sales channels or reps.

And although DPI wasn't announced to the public either, at least reps were provided scripting (which was posted here).

Didn't that scripting come months later though? As in November or December which was a month after DPI was initialized. And to be fair, at the time you were denying it up until around October I believe.

Maybe Bell 'leaked' this to gauge customer reaction to this idea before they actually go ahead and do it. They could finally be learning from their mistakes in the past and listening to customers a bit.

No, the scripting was released the same day DPI was launched on October 27th.

I also never denied throttling would ever happen, I simply denied that it was happening before then (it wasn't actually turned ON before October 27th).

I've also been waiting for the person who started these rumours in the various forums and blogs to post the (now) infamous "internal memo" everyone keeps referring to.

If this is indeed true, I imagine it would probably affect Virgin Mobile subscribers too. While the offerings from Virgin are substantially different from that of Bell, I've noticed that all my data traffic (I use Mobile GMaps, Google Maps, GMail, and Opera Mini applications) go through Bell's proxy servers.

Hopefully when TekSavvy introduces cellular service, they'll have their own data servers. On the other hand, if they're going to resell Globalive/Videotron's upcoming services, they may not have a choice.

confirmed

reply to BryceS
Yup its a confirmed thing now.
Its going to happen for sure.
think I saw the date as the 26th.

I still want to see the internal memo and I want to see what they are telling their reps to "how to position themselves" in situations.

I wanna see this load of crap people are going to be fed now.

Maybe because Bell owns Virgin?

In a way I find it funny that they are throttling free GPS apps in favor of their own pay for gps apps.

I mean, how long has bell been screwing its own customers every chance they get?

If anyone is affected by this, I don't feel for you.

With bell the writing is on the wall, and has been for years, that they will suck every dime possible out of your pocket with the very least possible in quality service and quality support.

If you're still with them for any service and you bitch about this latest tactic to rape your wallet and degrade service, the fault lays with you.

is it done by the phone's firmware or the network?
ie. will virgin and others be affected?

They don't own Virgin. They have a 50% share. I seem to recall it being non-voting, but I'm not sure about that.

any news
