Omitting the previous mentions that I agree with, here are a couple more:

Age of Empires: Age of Kings
X-Com: UFO Defense
Diablo II
Civilization III/IV
Star Wars: Dark Forces

I agree with many of the above, but feel inclined to mention some of the LucasArts classics like the Monkey Island series, Full Throttle, Maniac Mansion & Day of the Tentacle. Also Hidden & Dangerous 2 is, imho, the best WWII game ever made and a classic PC game.

I'll throw in Bladerunner. One of my favorites, but is this even obtainable?

I think it might be on Gametap.

If you are into RPG's Planescape Torment is a must. That game was just awesome. No save the world from evil villain #123. Fallout 1 and 2 and Arcanum Steamworks are still classics.

I would include Freespace 1 and 2 and of course the Wing Commander and Privateer games. I still have my sidewinder joystick I also enjoyed Starlancer back in the day as well. ]

FPS wise The AvP series is still quite fun to play. The first one had plenty of jumps, and thrills.

Anything from Blizzard, they haven't made a bad game yet.

Duke Nuke'em 3D (until Duke Nuke'em Forever comes out this will have to do)

Grand Theft Auto 3 and 4.

Lucas Arts has a ton of good games too, the Star Wars: Dark Forces was very good. Any of the Star War flight series, Tie Fighter and X-Wing were great.

Jedi Knight II was a fantastic game.

If you can get it to run and like RPGs, an all-time favorite, and once considered one of the best RPGs ever is Betrayal at Krondor.

Another vote for Quake II. I would also throw in Privateer and perhaps LOMAC if you are up for a very challenging combat flight sim.

I've got to throw my vote in for the old Sierra games...

Space Quest series
King's Quest series
Leisure Suit Larry series
Police Quest series

Hours of fun, and the LSL easter eggs are practically endless.

Not sure how many people remember this game, but it's a good oldy

It's called "Cyberia"

I used to love that game, I still have the original disc here.

I forgot about another couple favorites of mine.

Under A Killing Moon was a really unique game and I've never played anything like it since.

The Gabriel Knight games were also a lot of fun.

I honestly don't believe I've had a good "thinking" game in a long time. Do they even make games like that anymore?

Oh, and one cannot forget Myst.
