Re: iphone appstore speedtest

I found a programmer of a couple of other appstore apps who seems to know what he is doing, he is writing it based on my spec. Feel free to ask for more out of it... although it might not get into the first appstore release.

I might be blind, but I don't see a way to delete the history log??? Another thing that I have noticed is that the icons for the History log and Help on the bottom of the app sometimes don't show up.

Great work. That being said, since the app knows your location, can the available servers be listed in order of distance instead of alphabetical.
The bottom row icons are, well, missing for the history and Help.
The compare results bring you to the main DSLR page.
Is there any way to sort the test results by best or worst.

Once again, great work!

Bob

edit - The Map function in the Test Detail brings me to the general vicinity, but I'm used to seeing the little blue circle.

Well it works but once you are done you are stuck with comparing the results at DSLR.

While I dont have an issue with that I would prefer an option to go back to the test page

the button is optional and I've requested it be moved to the history log.

It will go to some kind of page that shows other results from other people using the program.

Any chance you can get the guy to write a iPhone web interface to DSLR? Although, it's perfectly acceptable to use the regular site on a phone, there are some improvements that could be made for the iPhone. I'm thinking of a site similar to the iPhone version of Facebook, with more features, of course.

Uh, unless I'm mistaken that is the old version. Justin sent two versions, at least I got two, and I'm actually not sure which is the latest. That screen shot is not from the most recent PM. Maybe future versions should have a very noticeable version number somewhere so we can keep track.

I dunno, this is the one I received from Justin via PM on monday (29th). I never used any previous versions as I just recently sent Justin my UDID.

Something interesting I noticed... When you are moving (even walking) the latency is much higher than when standing still.

Has anyone else seen this?

I hadn't tested that but one faint possibility is the G-force sensors are getting in the way of the network code. Ridiculous, I know, but easy to test: stand still and shake the phone, see if it drops like it does for walking.

I'm sure that thing is on all the time, and probably taking up some cycles when the phone is moved.

I finally got the app last night. looks pretty good. I'm sure somebody has already posted about the typo about how are you connected to the "intertet", right?

Hmmm. I got some decent results at home. But right now at work, I was doing a WiFi test, and it crashed. Do you get the crash reports, or do they go through Apple? How does that work?

The first server list I got had SF at the top, which I would expect. Every other server list since then has it at the bottom and Brisbane (!) at the top.

The new version seems to be working good. The icons aren't vanishing out of thin air anymore. Is there going to be a way to delete the history logs short of deleting the app from the phone? Now I just gotta figure out why my DSL is being so ridiculously slow today...

I just installed 1.05. Seems to work well. I tried shaking the phone while standing still and the latency was low (150ish). when i was walking (in the same area with full bars) the latency was like 500ms.

BTW, if you do "Get Info" on the app in iTunes, it still shows 1.0, and it has a generic application icon. I'm sure you know these already

I don't know if it is too much to ask out of a free app, but would it be possible to have some sort of graph representing our speed test results over time?
