mcfehn : Ok, so the tech came out yesterday and installed the new advanced modem. He was there for three hours. The problem he ran into was that after the modem was installed, it wouldn't sync up with the network. Finally after an hour, the dial tone showed up. I got kind of worried after he left because when I got online for the first time, my downoad speeds were WAY down. Speed test after speed test showed me only getting 6 down instead of 15. I called CS and they said if it continued into today that I should call them back. Shortly after my call, things got back to normal. I chalked the slow speeds to network traffic. I'm not usually online during that time of the afternoon.

So anyway, the new broadband phone service is up and running and sounds great. I forget the modem brand but I think it starts with a T.

I'm still a little upset that there still is no caller id to tv in Evansville. Hopefully it's coming soon.

Goober : I'm not sure how much of a treat it will be, but it's been extremely reliable (knock on wood) for us. I wish WOW offered greater control over the VOIP features through a web based interface, but as basic phone serveice goes, it's not too bad and certainly not any worse than Ameritech. In the beginning I used to feel there was ocassional lag or ringing, but I don't get that anymore.

Someone here should confirm, but I think WOW resells Sprint service.

mcfehn : I've always been hesitant about signing up for a VOIP service. I'm in the Evansville market and right now I have the Advanced phone package except i'm still using traditional phone lines which are left over from Sigecom before the takeover by WOW. Anyway, in an effort to keep up with the times, I called yesterday to schedule an appointment to go ahead and switch to the advanced modem. They're actually coming today. I'm on the new 15/1 tier so I know I have plenty of bandwidth. Am I nuts for making this switch or am I in for a treat?
