Re: Slow Speeds in NYC

Ok, i'm content that you see the bright side of things. If you can see that, my post is done. I have been thinking it is possible. That the first routing point your going through. Might be the culprit of your problem. Ip's have been changed to protect.

If it makes any difference (to help rule out cause) here is a tracert for me:

tracert www.google.com

Tracing route to google.navigation.opendns.com [208.67.217.231]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 4 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.3.1
2 3 ms 2 ms 3 ms 192.168.1.1
3 25 ms 23 ms 27 ms 10.32.0.0
4 26 ms 26 ms 26 ms ge-1-2-2-0.CORE-RTR1.NY325.verizon-gni.net [130.

6 27 ms 29 ms 27 ms 0.so-4-2-0.XT1.NYC8.ALTER.NET [152.63.10.1]

.130.14.214]
10 27 ms 27 ms 27 ms google.navigation.opendns.com [208.67.217.231]

Trace complete.

I'm in 11214 and speed is ok, I'm starting to get a feeling. This is a paid advertisement by "Optimum Online." I'm not officially accusing, just feels strange. I would not be lying that speed is my true results. If it was slow I would be complaining too. But your in 11214 and having issues, while i'm not. Unless we have something radically different this is odd. I'm not covering for Verizon. Customer just like you so something must be on your end. Because i'm not magically getting better speeds. For this to be on the isp's end I would suffer too. As we are nearly connected to the same equipment. Unless other possibility (outside of many) might be cards going bad. Or modems, routers who knows.

BTW: These guys have problems too: »Slow OOL Speeds

My cousin lives just 1 block away from me, both of us are on the 3.0Mpbs package, I get 2.8-2.9Mbps speeds while his maximum is 1.9Mbps.72nd st 13th-14th me, 12-13th him. Go figure. =P

Hello,

I'haven't been online these past few days, just can't stand waiting 5-10 mins for a webpage to load.

Is there anyway to get this reolved? Maybe sticky this thread on verizon direct forums and hope the techs will take notice.

Thanks.

In past two weeks or so, my dsl speed have dropped from around 3mb/sec to sub 500kb/sec. However, my upload speed stayed the same at 700-815kb/sec. I've tried to call Verizon dsl support got bunch of Indian guys telling me it is my computer or my phone line. However, they cannot answer why my upload speed didn't drop like my download speed. Anyway, I give up on talking to them. They have no idea what they are reading. One guy told me that I have serious OS issue and should try a new network card and remove then reinstall TCP/IP. hehe I finally couldn't take it anymore and told me that I'm MCSE/CNE, so I should know if I'm having OS problem. That made the guy go quiet then transfered me to a woman support who asked me to do modem power off again. sigh....

Anyway, I live in Midwood Brooklyn 11232. Not sure what is Verizon doing but they really need to fix this.

I only get better speeds around 12AM. Pretty slow around evenings, anywhere from 500 kbps to 1.5Mbps.

I've been getting plenty of disconnects since the weekend. If this doesn't clear up within the week I'll have to give Verizon a call.

What are you waiting for?! A miracle? Those of you that are having problems should report your situation ASAP. Otherwise, VOL would have no idea that there's a problem with your connection. Reporting your problem to Verizon Direct at »/forum/vzdirect is more responsive and productive than calling their Customer Support number. Joining in this discussion thread, accepting the substandard performance, and doing nothing is not going to improve your connection any time soon.

That's true. I'm writing on the Direct Forum to try to get it resolved. I've tried the Support number in the past and it usually leads to nowhere.

Hi,

WOW, anyone notice the speed is back to normal? I'd just got home from work and ran a speed test. Here's the result:

This is quite a surprise to me, I'd thought Verizon just didn't care. Well, Let's hope it stays like this.

Of course they care. If they didn't care about speeds, they wouldn't be giving people free upgrades and my 768kbps service would be horrible!

Seems to be back to normal here too.

Never mind, experiencing the same slowdown again. Got my hopes up too fast

Well, at least you saw a bit of sunlight, eh? Don't worry. IF the speeds were there for a while, they might be trying to fix it. Just like a storm, the problem should go away soon

The problem seems to have spread here too. The disconnects are the biggest issue it seems for everyone. It has been most of the day today. When it is fast it is fast, but when it sucks it sucks badly. Likely they are working on it since it seems sporadic for people.

What are your transceiver stats from the modem? Lightning loves to make static on copper when it strikes should that be killing the margins.

Transceiver Revision: 1.0.9.0
Vendor ID Code: 4

Happy Halloween! Otherwise your line has noise on it, hence the fact that you don't have the full 3Mbps and lightning messes it up. See if you can clean up that phone line, as your margins are too low, but you are in distance if I'm right.
