PGHammer : VZW has been offering month-to-month (via INpulse) for several years (my first cellular phone was via INpulse in 2005), and the previous poster bragging on VZW coverage is right to do so, as VZW does have fantastic coverage. The biggest quibble *I* had with INpulse wasn't their coverage (or even their rates, as most INpulse customers get nights and weekends free, and all VZW-to-VZW calls are free regardless of day or time), but their handset selection. As far as VZW's coverage goes, I could (and have) taken a VZW phone into the center of Sprint Country (Las Vegas, NV; specifically, the Strip) and have better coverage than Sprint.
And it's not the merger with Alltel that's driving the push to month-to-month, but the drying up of credit overall. The impact is spreading beyond housing to more general financing, and the impact is reaching VZW; how long before it reaches AT&T Mobility or Sprint?
