REN = 1 is some nominal ringer load.   Some phones have a high REN, i.e., they present more load than ideal to the ringing signal generator.<br><br>Most new era phones have a REN of 1. <br><br>I recall that the Bellcore standards said that a ringing signal generator should handle something like REN = 5 or more.<br> ]]></description>

The OP tried different PCs. All but cheesy laptops meet the USB spec of current available. If they don't meet the spec (500mA as I recall), they are not supposed to use the USB logo.<br><br>I suspect that MJ just has a weak ringing voltage/current generator due to size/cost. That's a whopping 90VAC, 20Hz with enough current per the Bellcore standards to operate 5 ringers.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : Dear All,<br><br>    Since the time i have bought the magic jack there's been only one problem i have faced and still facing that is i cannot hear the bell ringing on my cordless when anyone calls me. Yes i can only hear on the local Cord Phone which the sound is still very less. It works great when i hear on the computer but with the cordless i am still looking for answers. <br>    I hope someone of you could help me with this. Just for your information i have checked this on two computers, it is stil giving me same problem. Yes i am using        Windows XPSP3, I have tried it on a 2.4Ghz and also on 5.4Ghz cordless phones and i am on a network system. The problem still remains.<br>     Thanking you in advance. Hope some one has the answer ]]></description>
