| reply to Majoram Re: Unlocking Bell 2Wire modems....
I got TekSavvy dry DSL. The Bell technician was here today. After he did his thing, the line was not up. Befre I get a chance to call TekSavvy to see why (it turned out it was not activated yet), he went ahead and gave me this 2Wire 2701HG-G for free!
Now I guess to make use of it, I will have to unlock it. I will test it once I get the line up first. But had a question:
Did you guys figure out how the original firmware can be backed up?
Also, after I flash it, should I use it for an MLPPP strategy? |

| reply to slidxe said by slidxe :does that mean i can buy the ones on ebay (AT&T) and use it with teksavvy? The ones on eBay are 2700HG-B models. They are unlocked and they work just fine on TekSavvy. I am posting this using one of them. |

| reply to erfans said by erfans :Will this work on an AT@T 2Wire 2701HG-G. I'm going to purchase it tomorrow from craigslist so I need to know. Thanks! Okay 2 things: 1) AT&T modems are unlocked and no need to reflash them. 2) Model 2701HG-G is Bell not AT&T. AT&T should be 2701HG-B
Figure out which one you have before flashing. |

| reply to nicomaniaque said by nicomaniaque :Majoram, Its work? no bug or strang error? thanks cuz i will try on another 2 wire So far, I have it in Bridge Mode for about 2 days now with no problems with websurfing or downloading.
I haven't specifically checked the 2wire logs though for any messages.
said by nicomaniaque :Edit: i got a bricked 2 wire... what i can do with this? As far as I know, there is nothing you can do. Though I've "heard" that you can try contacting 2wire themselves and see if they will help.
said by wayjac :The bell 2701HG-G is a up to date adsl modem If your "old Alcatel" was a alcatel 1000 or speedtouch home/pro the 2wire just does a better job of maintaining adsl sync. One thing the 2wire does that the alcatel didn't is recognize that it can sync to a higher rate after it has trained down. Cool thanks for the info! |

I mainly mentioned the Application settings bit for others.

| reply to Majoram said by Majoram :Would appreciate any comments on my line stats as well. Your stats are good your dsl should be very stable. Another page for stats is the mdc detailed log.
said by Majoram :There is no longer an option for "Application Settings" in this firmware. The "Application Settings" that was present in the bell software may still be there in the singtel software in the firewall icon. I think bell had the firewall settings renamed "Application Settings".
