| reply to BlueDark Re: Unlocking Bell 2Wire modems....
said by BlueDark :where would one obtain the files .... how would the upgrade take place if i don't have access to the mdc ... I want to do this on a telus 2wire for which i don't have access to the mdc and the modem is useless at the moment since i can't configure it for pppoe (telus doesn't use pppoe). The MDC is not required to flash the modem. The flash site is: gateway.2wire.net/tech/upgrade.html
As for getting the firmware, read here: »www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/show···st222693 |

That said, this is NOT a rented modem.
Bought it off of Craigslist and the dude never returned my numerous calls or emails when I realized it was locked down by Bell.
On that note, I figure I can do whatever I want with it. |

said by Majoram :There is no longer an option for "Application Settings" in this firmware. The "Application Settings" that was present in the bell software may still be there in the singtel software in the firewall icon. I think bell had the firewall settings renamed "Application Settings".

I mainly mentioned the Application settings bit for others.
I'm currently using the 2wire in Bridge mode for now. It seems that it improved my connection quite a bit from the old Alcatel I had .. right? |

The bell 2701HG-G is a up to date adsl modem If your "old Alcatel" was a alcatel 1000 or speedtouch home/pro the 2wire just does a better job of maintaining adsl sync. One thing the 2wire does that the alcatel didn't is recognize that it can sync to a higher rate after it has trained down. |

I haven't specifically checked the 2wire logs though for any messages.
said by nicomaniaque :Edit: i got a bricked 2 wire... what i can do with this? As far as I know, there is nothing you can do. Though I've "heard" that you can try contacting 2wire themselves and see if they will help.
