It also allows operators to leverage their HSI infrastructure rather than maintaining two backend sytems. Other efficiencies are gained from the ability to consolidate resources which used to be located at every site (e.g. expensive telephone switches) into regional or national infrastructure (e.g. VoIP "softswitches").

CoxJimR : The current program is a market by market effort to eliminate the remaining DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1 modems from the system, which have been off the approved list for over a year.

Why would we want to do that? I'm going to get probably more technical than I should, so I may need coxengr to fill if there are any questions. My understanding is the DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1 modems are unable to support a change to the upstream modulation that will allow us to enable more bandwidth in the same frequency spectrum. (Be more efficient!) So we are working to go to an all DOCSIS 2.0 environment on a market by market basis.

Some Preferred and Premier customers will see benefit from a modem swap, since some of the older 1.0 modem only have 10BaseT ethernet, which would be limiting their current speeds. Other older modems have lower performing chipsets.

To pro-actively answer a potential question, no, I don't know when any particular system is going, that is a local decision. In this case I would not inquire to the system, because we may not have published this info toe representatives yet. I'm sure when a market is ready, you will be contacted.
--
Want the most out of BBR?
