I have done this before because I wanted to see Boy A »www.imdb.com/title/tt1078188/ so badly. Worked out pretty well.

Configure your XP machine for ICS through the VPN connection. Turn on-demand dialing on for the VPN connection.

Alternatively, I'd purchase a cheapie Linksys or Buffalo router and use it to maintain the VPN connection.
