| viatalk is charging my credit card willy nilly
I've been a viatalk customer for over 4 years now and recently they automatically extended my service for 2 years @ almost $500 without even asking ... they offer new customers 2 years for $199 what's that all about?
I opened a ticket and wasted hours with customer service, trying to understand #1 why they treat there exiting customers so poorly and #2 why they charge credit cards without prior notification.
Bottom line: they said they would give me 18 months for $199 and I agreed ... then they closed the ticket charged my credit card twice and disconnected my phone.
Now i have no phone and no explanation ... has anyone else experienced such disregard for the customer from viatalk besides me? |

| reply to brian188 Well I'm amazed they can stay in business ... I'm still without a phone, but the $500 charges are still on my credit card!!!
Not a single reply from the viatalk dead parrot, the urgent viatalk ticket, or this forum.
What is the recommended VOIP service these days for quality and price and some customer service? |

Well I'm amazed they can stay in business ... I'm still without a phone, but the $500 charges are still on my credit card!!! So dispute the charge with your credit card company. Mistakes happen. If Viatalk won't correct it, your credit card company will.
Not a single reply from the viatalk dead parrot, the urgent viatalk ticket, or this forum. That's great, isn't it. They are adding that personal service to their complaint line that others have come to expect with other customer service channels. I'm sure someone will come along and chime in that the call queues are normal and all emails are being replied to timely so the problem isn't on VT's end. Hopefully you aren't paying for "priority" support.
What is the recommended VOIP service these days for quality and price and some customer service? Quality. Price. Service. Pick two. |

| reply to krn When I read Viatalk subscribers are randomly and ridiculously billed like that I become very uneasy about continuing doing business with them. If what was said is true, Viatalk is set to be self-destruct.
My service with them is up pretty soon and after reading this type of reports I am skeptical about a renewal. Hope they can clarify this claim soon so we are in a better position to decide if we want to stay or move on.
Brendan, your input? |

| I have used them for over 2 years and have not had any random excessive charges. Of course accidents happen, but they should be corrected ASAP.
For the OP, new customers typically get a better deal than existing customers. That is common in many industries.
I would wonder why they disconnected the phone, that's not right.
I would also recommend joining DSLreports. It's free, and you can receive PM's. -- "A religious war is like children fighting over who has the strongest imaginary friend."

| reply to jbond007 Oh, it's true ...
9/12 my credit card was charged $459.67 9/12 opened viatalk ticket UNA-62499 which ended with agreement to sign-up for 18 months for $199 9/15 my credit card was charged again for $2.45
9/21 opened a case with my credit card company to dispute the $2.45 charge and to adjust my $459.67 charge down to $267.60 = $199 + my guess at taxes and fees for 18 months
9/24 viatalk disconnected my service with no explaination at all 9/25 opened viatalk ticket NJO-44340 requesting the service I had paid for
9/25 no response from viatalk 9/26 no response (yet) from viatalk
Now, i'm trying to work from home without a phone ... |

| Yes they do have a clause that they can cancel you if you try a charge back.
There is a $50 administrative fee for any illegitimate chargebacks placed against us. Any illegitimate chargebacks or threatened illegitimate chargebacks are grounds for immediate account cancellation.
I would hope they would take care of this before a customer is forced to do the charge back route. |

| reply to krn viatalk has apparently restored my service but the instructions to receive my IP address so i can update my router don't work. They said to press **** on my phone and i should hear a voice for the configuration menu, all i hear is nothing.
Their response to that is: "Unfortunately, the only ways you may obtain the IP of the adapter is either through the IVR, or within in your router."
and if i have any questions call them ... I DON'T HAVE A PHONE!!! should i scream their number out my window?
Does anyone hear know any other way to get my routers IP address? I have a blue and black linksys router with two ports, it that matters. |

| Unless you changed something the ATA get the address from your router. Just unplug it and plug it back in.
Edit: they left out you need to enter 110# on the phone after the **** to get the ip. |

@comcast.net
| i did that about four times now ... tried unplugging my modem and my router and then plugging them back in one at a time. I tried unplugging my router only and then plugging it back in ... still nothing. My power light is on solid and my ethernet cable lights are on and the internet one is blinking. Both phone lights are off. |

| reply to dcurrey What is illegitimate about krn disputing the charge? Viatalk screwed up so they should be the one who should be penalized! Viatalk need to take responsibility for its mistakes. If anything, they should compensate krn for the aggravation and inconveniences. |
|
  krn
@comcast.net | reply to dcurrey they did tell me about 110# but the **** was suppose to prompt me for that with a voice which doesn't happen, but i just tried ****110# anyway and nothing happens. |

join:2004-06-29 | reply to jbond007 Didn't say anything was illegitimate. Just responding to Rusells question if they can terminate someone do to a chargebback.
But then who defines illegitimate. You or Viatalk? |
|
  jbond007
@verizon.net | So the question is - why was krn disconnected? You telling us that Viatalk is god unto itself and that it can define terms such as illegitimate anyway it wants? Keep your arrogance to yourself! |
