| Re: Wrong place. You don't know anyone from Japan do you? Just like in the US we have a whole culture against illegal immigrants, they have a whole culture of "pop star outsiders". To say they are the most anti-immigrant nation on Earth is to say the US has no racism in the country. It's all just a matter of opinion of course, but have you seen what an immigrant coming to the US has to go through if they want to become a legal citizen? They would put our history and government classes in high school to shame as they have to learn more about both than most of us did while in school. -- Fight NebuAD and the like: Click Here to pollute their data | |

| You've got to be joking. You think it's difficult to become a legal citizen in this country? I have a great deal of experience in this area. I watch people who barely speak English get coached on how to answer the questions in the interview. Then they go in for their interview, and even though it's quite clear that the applicant truly has little command of the English language, and is simply reciting answers to questions based on rote memorization and no true understanding of American History or the structure of our Government, they're still easily granted citizenship.
Our process for granting citizenship is a joke these days. Sure, it make take some time. But these immigrants know how to play they game.

| clearly you have never been to Japan. Get outside of the main areas of the big cities, and you will be surprised how many people will want nothing to do with you, refuse to serve you in their resteraunts, etc. I'm certainly not saying the US is perfect, but it is very blatant over there. | |

I especially love the [citation needed] part of the last sentence in Wikipedia.
I know a significant number of non-native Japanese who live there. All of them are either 1) exchange students, or 2) highly skilled workers (all tech-oriented). To which I say... so what?
We have both anti-immigrant and pro-immigrant attitudes in the United States -- and I would say say our immigration laws are too open. I'd like to see programmes like H1Bs seriously reconsidered; I have great qualms with how businesses abuse cheap labour. I can't "blame" the H1B programme for this, because the fault is ultimately with those businesses -- but we all know it's impossible to change a corporate mentality.
That said, as a Caucasian American who has great interest in Asian cultures (studied Mandarin for 5 years + lived with a Chinese family, and am currently learning Korean), I can assure you that said immigration discrimination (sounds like an 80s pop song!) does not upset me or make me think worse of Japan. Different culture, different history, different environment.
