Re: Speedstream 6520

If you are in Windows, hit the Start button, then select Run, hit enter, then type "cmd" (without quotes) and hit enter.

Once inside the command prompt, type ipconfig, and hit enter.

It should list the modem IP under "Default Gateway".

Re: Speedstream 6520

You should be able to connect to the 6520 no matter what service you have. It's an internal web page. You got your pc set to obtain IP automatically?

Re: Speedstream 6520

If it's new it should not have any problem.Just plug in the 6520 to the laptop and try again. What IP did it give you for the gateway?

This is what you need to find when you do get into it.Its under home network/advanced settings if bell allows that on yours.

Lol what the hell is that.Reset it using the pin hole on the bottom.Insert a paper clip or something and hold it till it flashes or whatever it does.About 5 or 10 seconds

Re: Speedstream 6520

I have never reset one before since I never had to do so.If it's like others hold it in to flash red(?) then push it back in again for a few seconds.

That ip is different than the other. The first one is a bank system in Japan and this one is probably your cogeco IP since thats who it's registered to.

Unplug you modem from whatever you have it plugged into.Hook up the 6520 to the pc by ethernet all by itself.Reset the 6520 as per above then try the 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.254.254 if one of those does not work it wasn't reset properly.

One thing that you can try is inserting »mynetwork in your address bar.

If that does not work, you can try resetting the tcp\ip of your computer by typing this command in the command prompt:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt (this step is not necessary if more than one computer has been tried)

One other thing you can try is to manually insert the default gateway (192.168.2.1 or which ever applies to the firmware you are using) in your connections settings to get access to the router.

If you get access to the firmware, if using the Bell one, I would suggest to put it in router only mode if its not what it is on the moment. This would be the second step in the initial setup after the router as been reset to the factory default. Choose the second radio point in option 2 (router only)than continue with the setup.

Re: Speedstream 6520

Sorry I've been away. When you generate the key that is what you use for all the pc's that connect to it on wireless.

Not sure what you mean in the second post.Once wireless is enabled and you get the key and rebooted the modem your good to go.Anything else would need to be done on your pc.

Enter a password in the field and then click generate. The resulting pass is what you need to enter in the pc's that are gonna connect.I used anonymous in the example above and thats what it gave as the encrypted code using 128.Open or shared is up to you.

When you go into the wireless setup, choose WPA-PSK for the security with a TKIP key. The passphrase is then chosen by yourself...like "sweetpeas". Then the same passphrase is placed in the notebook security settings and then it should be able to connect. Don't use the standard Wep key security as it is very weak.

Re: Speedstream 6520

Its the key that is generated when you select generate key.You need to enter it when the network asks for it.

Let's back up here a for a minute and explain a couple of things. When you are asked for a 128 bit key or a network key you are setting up what is called an encryption key. All of the characters sent to the router are encrypted using the key...so each side has to understand how to decrypt the information. Choosing a common key between the two devices allows them to communicate properly. I suggested using a WPA-PSK key, and you can choose that option when you see the drop down box with either 64 bit or 128 bit Wep...instead of choosing the Wep type of key, use the drop down and choose WPA-PSK. Then another drop down asks you for either TKIP or AES and you can choose TKIP. Then it asks for a "pass phrase" or personal key to use. Pick something simple so you can remember it like the word: sweetpeas. There is a group policy timing box and I put 9999 in there...click next and then the router reboots. Now when you are asked for the network key in your notebook put in the word: sweetpeas. The two devices will be able to communicate using the key: sweetpeas.
