CR123 : As of right now, they need at least a Cat3 run to the modem from the demarc. If you don't have that, they'll run Cat5 to it.

From the modem, an Ethernet patch cable goes into a small Ethernet->Coax converter, which is connected to a(ny) coax jack in the house. The set top boxes have direct coax input.

I should add that coax as the preferred install method is very new - it's stable enough and works in most cases when the installer tests it.

As you can probably infer, I would expect that modem/gateways with the coax converter built in will be available at some point.
--
- The content of the preceding post is my opinion, and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of my employer. -

CR123 : Indeed, if you are HD capable, your Internet speed is not affected. Call in and ask. I thought I heard that HD profiles were being applied to new SD installs when possible as well, but I could be wrong.

One thing I do know: coax is now the preferred method of installation (utilizing your existing coax). They may still have to run Cat5 to the modem if none exists. If your coax isn't good enough / can't be improved easily, they will run Cat5 to at least one set-top box.
--
- The content of the preceding post is my opinion, and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of my employer. -
