The Japanese will always be ahead of us in terms of broadband connections.
They probably laugh their asses off at our "puny" 3 mbit and 5 mbit cable connections.
But wait...does anyone realize that broadband is a bit harder to get outside the large cities of Japan? |

| Japan obviously is looking towards the future. Plain and simple, if the bandwidth is available and there is a market for products that can take advantage of the bandwidth, people will package it and sell it. I can name many products that haven't taken off because of bandwidth limitations.
Most of the things that we now get on DVD or CD could easily be transported to us quickly over a pipe that large. There are many people that love the convenience factor (myself included) that would love to have a service that could essentially eliminate the need to have hard copies for copyrighted materials such as movies/games/software apps as well as the other streaming apps like HD IPTV and the works...the possibilities are endless!
