I sync at 1024 for my upload, im on the 5/1 package and asked for my line to be changed to ADSL2+ line coding, using an ADSL2+ capable modem you will reach full sync. GWI should make the 5/1 package ADSL2+ by default. |

| Good luck I have a 6100 that I do not use,not a very good product and I hope but do not think it will help you. You could go to newegg and buy a d-link or a linksys that will work well but you will never get your speed as it is just not delivered to you. Bruce |

| reply to buzz_4_20 said by buzz_4_20 :As I have it understood, the g.dmt standard has a technical limit of 8megs down and 800k up. From everything I can tell this is my problem. I'd have to get another modem from the company and to get the rest of my upload speed. All of our 40+ COs in Maine, except Norway, have ADSL2+. If you have an account with a speed of greater than 8mb/sec down, you are going to be on ADSL2+ gear, not g.dmt...

| I have 5/1 and have been switched over to ADLS2+ for a couple of years now, the 5/1 really should be set to ADSL2+ by default because hitting those uploads on regular DSL just doesnt happen, ive tried a lot of differnt modems but the only way to get a 1meg upload is with an ADSL2+ modem and the line coding set to ADSL2+.

I have adsl2+ equipment(on the 3/768) and I called to get on the adsl2+ encoding and they said only if I upgraded to 10/1 would they do that. |

Alan You make an excellent point. It really ought to be that way and I will work on getting it changed. You should hear back from me within the next week.
Some historic background: four years ago, GWI was the first, or one of the first, ISPs in the country to roll out ADSL2+. At that time, ADSL2+ CPE (modems) were very hard to come by as they were new. For that reason, we used ADSL modems whenever we could. These days, ADSL2+ CPE are plentiful, but the policy didn't change. I need to check with all involved to make sure there aren't issues I missed, but I would think we can turn on ADSL2+ by default now. It would be a shame not to take full advantage of all our ADSL2+ DSLAMs in the COs.

| reply to braynes said by braynes :Wow and I thought that Verizon owned the co's and sold them to foulpoint. well you learn something new every day. Bruce FP does own most of the COs in Maine. GWI (and other companies such as MMC, Oxford, etc) leases space inside the CO's that have colocation space available to the CLECs. GWI owns their own equipment and they put that equipment in the COs they can get access to. That said, not all of the CO's have colocation space available or FP is unwilling to lease space in, or not financially feasible to put equipment in a CO. |
