| Letter in mail, new charges for service calls.
Not a question, just some info mainly.
I received a letter from my local coop today, stating that they are now going to "start" charging for service calls. I didn't know that they didn't before now, never had to use them since installed 2.5 years ago, but that's how they worded it. Anyway, $50 per hour "for time spent on the call", plus $1 per mile, one way to get here (for me that would be $65 for mileage).
In addition they are offering a maintenance plan for $6 per month, which will cover all repairs, equipment replacement, etc. and up to 2 hours of labor. Normal wear and tear only, not covering things like trees, lightning, etc. The fee may increase on the "anniversary" of the date of the agreement.
I see some people saying that they have to spend a certain amount with each service call, kind of wondering if any other dealers offer a service plan. It would maybe be nice for those who are stuck, with severe problems all the time, with repeat service calls. -- Antec Sonata II, Corsair 520W modular ps, Intel Core 2 Duo E4300, XFX Nvidia nForce 650i ultra, XFX GeForce 8600GT 256MB, Crucial Ballistix 2GB PC2 6400 ddr2, Seagate 7200.10 250GB sata, SAMSUNG 18X DVD+R sata, CDRW 48x IDE, Mandriva 2009 RC2 | | Dr_StrangeLove_

With electronics, anything can go wrong....but normally it will last a long time if lightening is not involved. I have whole house surge protection, with solid grounding...knock, knock...
My Coop (REA) has kicked around a plan whereby if they come out, and you agree to stick around another year, its free service call...but it may take several days.
I don't know if they followed thru on this or not...before, it was a free service call...and no charge for parts.
Note - Since I'm using a REA provider, they tend to be out and about, and can drop in when they are in the area...which saves fuel costs/etc. When not doing WB, they are doing electrical lines/etc. Hence, their labor costs are reduced from a stand alone business having to come out. | | Earth Signal Earthsignal Premium join:2002-10-03 Burlington, IA
| reply to arancher Not to bad. So far my NRTC (local coop) has not gone that path and are very prompt if there is a problem.
