| Sources for high voltage electrolytics?
 2 x 6550's @ 425 vdc |
I am restoring my old speech amp used with my 2 vintage transmitters. The multi-section HV electrolytic filter cap and the multi-section decoupling cap have dried up and failed. I am assuming that it is pretty much impossible to get multi-section caps at this time, but can anyone recommend a reliable source for axial 20uf @ 450 vdc and 40uf @ 450 vdc caps? It would be very easy to use 5 of these under the chassis, tied to solder lug strips to replace the chassis mount multi-sections.
My source for these types of components is no longer in business.
Thanks for any suggestions.

| reply to Ender3rd A good source drjim , particularly for the cans.
The radial lead HV aluminum's are available through Mouser.
A lot of people when trying to replace a part, particularly something like the aluminum cap are looking for the exact value. As I recall, 47uF and 22uF were more standard and when you look for them they pop right up. Most of the electrolytic's were -20%/+80% tolerance which give you a lot of wiggle room and they were used in filters where it didn't matter too much if you went higher.

| I was always taught that when replacing an electrolytic, higher voltage and capacitance were OK, as long as you didn't go completely gonzo. Kinda the same with resistors, a higher wattage rating is fine, as long as it fits. -- One man's Magic is another man's Engineering. |
