[TW] Earthlink Cable Usenet access?

Are you required to log in? I had not used it for a while but .east and .west are both working fine for me.

Yup, requires log in. Does anyone have this working or have any ideas?

a couple of things to try...

- have you tried creating a second account through earthlink's website and trying to log on with it? (EL allows you to create e up to 8 I believe)

- have you tried nntp.earthlink.net as well?

Yup, a second account hasn't done any good for me. I haven't tried nntp.earthlink, I'll try that now.
Sonofjay, does earthlink's usenet still work for you?

I'm in NYC, and I used EL Usenet a few days ago. I was getting great speeds too (about 600kbps to 900kbps). I used news.east.earthlink.net. The port has to be 119 (I tried another port and couldn't access the newsgroups). I set this port # in my newsgroup software (free Grabit!). You might have to open up the port in your router or software firewall too. (Turn off your firewall and try to access Usenet to test and see if it was blocking you.)

I use www.Newzleech.com to find my stuff and free Grabit! to grab my files. I'm glad I have EL instead of Time Warner (which dumped Usenet) for the Usenet feature alone. I don't use it often, but it's nice to have when I do want something.
