alphabet : I'm having the same problem in VA. The DSL signal seems great but the Internet light goes out randomly almost every day or night. Lately, I can't even power cycle. I have to reconnect using the modem Wizard. AT&T had me establish a manunal connection which is supposed to solve the problem. It worked even with a router for 3 days then I couldn't connect. I finally reset the modem and went back to the automatic connect and just do what I have to do to get connected. I even got a new modem from AT&T. It didn't help. AT&T has no other solutions so I am checking out other service providers. I had wonderful service for over two years. I feel the problem lies with their equipment/connection but nobody gets to the root of the problem. The PPP0E connection should be consistent.

PeteC2 : Sounds like what I am going through here in Bristol now, only I have it even more severe.

I called in and after hours of haggling tier one "help", I finally got a service call in for a couple of days later.

The day before they came out, it came back up, full speed. The next day, Tuesday (I was at work, so they only had outside access, but no biggie, as all the lines in this building are just fine), they left me a message saying that they "fixed" the problem.

Yesterday afternoon, slowly at first, it went back down the tubes again. I can barely connect, or not connect at all.

So, I call them, and ask just what did they "fix" on Tuesday? Oh, nothing, as it turns out, "everything appeared to be fine already".

Obviously not! Supposedly they will be back out tomorrow, but frankly, I am quickly losing confidence in what they say.
--
...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones?

legendman : Recently I have been getting drops and when the dsl light on my modem indicates the dsl is up and working I still have trouble getting an ip address from server.
It will be ok for a couple days then it I have persistent trouble for a couple days. Doesn't seem to be weather related because Friday and Saturday during the downpours it was working fine, but Sunday it dropped and took approx. an hour to get connected again. This has been an ongoing issue for the last couple months, I ran a wire directly from the box on the outside of the house and that didn't help. Also I have swapped out modems and routers to no avail. I am using either a speedstream and a dsl modem made by creative to test with. Both routers I have tested with are linksys. Any help with what to look at next is greatly appreciated.
